It's marked Voltamp and from my research it's a dynamo or generator. It could also be used as an electric motor. It is in excellent orignal condition with no cracks or breaks. The base measures about 4 3/4 x 5 1/4 inches and the unit is about 3 3/4 inchs tall overall. It turns freely with little wear in the bearings. I have tested it with 6 volts and it works fine! It has a pulley for a belt. It may have some connection to hit and miss gas or steam engine models. The pictures tell the story. It also has a buffing wheel that it can run from that pulley(needs a belt) Could have been used by a jeweler or perhaps it's a model.
