An epic dream dollar note that could bring one to the absolute peak of satisfaction with toe curling pleasure. National Bank Notes were United States currency banknotes issued by banks chartered by the United States Government. The notes were backed by United States bonds the bank deposited with the United States Treasury. Background Prior to the American Civil War. State banks issued their own banknotes. During the Civil War. In 1863, the National Banking Act established a system of National Banks which were empowered to issue National Bank Notes subject to federal oversight. The chartering of banks and administrative control over the issuance of National Bank Notes ... morewere the responsibility of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. In 1865 the Congress enacted a 10% tax on state bank note issuance making it unprofitable for state banks to issue notes. And thus restricting the circulation of privately issued banknotes to the National Banks. The Program From 1863 to 1935. Hi for sale I have only two left Antique architectural salvaged wood carved porch Columns or pilllars. I believe the wood is pine. They are painted white and have a chippy patina. 2 soild ~4 sided pieces. Photos 1- 7 show the full piece columns. 8-12 show the 1/2 columns. The second photo shows how I have used a pair in my home. I added hang hood and heavy wire to the back of the columns. I then added a heavy phto hook to my wall, then I hung the columns to the wall. I have 2(1/2) SOLD, the 1/2 are sold. Up for auction is this 1875-G German 1 Mark from the Karlsruhe Mint. This coin has the German Imperial Eagle on the Obverse. This beautiful coin is in brilliant uncirculated condition with a very nice strike. Both obverse and reverse have very nice toning present. But especially on the reverse with Gold and Bluish toning around the rim. The obverse has mainly light brown toning with some Gold. This coin has nice mint luster present, especially on the reverse. I have always been fascinated by California Gold Tokens… yes. That’s right, TOKENS. Certainly not as well known as their denominated brothers and much maligned, they have a history that is as rich and varied as California itself. First, let’s debunk a few myths. While the old saw, anything with a bear is worthless” may be good general advice for the uneducated, there are bears that are good, as there are tokens that may even be rarer and more desirable than many of the denominated pieces. You just have to understand the process that brought the generations of these interesting little pieces of exonumia into existence. Initially, fractional coinage was created to meet the needs of trade. Coins, even privately minted ones, were preferable to gold dust where there was a constant debate over the rates. The manufacturers were generally jewelers ... moreby trade, though the early equipment was crude. Once the San Francisco Mint opened in 1854, the need for the coins lessened, but the jewelers had made money with their products and were loathe to quit. There also was a developing souvenir market that created a new demand so in the frontier environment, they continued to make their denominated fractionals and figured that the government would be hard-pressed to enforce their mandates. Eventually, that proved false and the government threats led the jewelers to subterfuge… first backdating their products and then removing the denominations… which created the tokens and charms.
