Up for your consideration is this nice topaz depression glass cup in the Floral 10 1/2 closed handled grill plate in the Princess pattern. It was made by Federal glass from 1931-1935. The plate is about 10 1/2 inches from handle to handle inches tall and 9 3/8th inches across from side to side. The condition is very good. There are no chips. Cracks or repairs. WEBB Topaz FACETTED OPTICAL SPIDER'S WEB PAPERWEIGHT -Perfect
DESCRIPTION: Absolutely stunning finely engraved facetted paperweight from the English world acclaimed glass factory of Webb situated in Dennis Park. Stourbridge, England in a striking bejewelled shimmering koh-i-noor topaz colouration. The Webb factory began a long and very successful reign as one of England finest glassworks in 1837 whereby the concern was founded by Thomas Webb who ran the factory until his death in 1869. Webb produced and substantial array of mainly crystal wares including vases, bowls, tableware, paperweights and artglass. The companies museum pieces include Cameo, bronze, peach bloom and Queens Burmese to name but a very few ranges. The paperweight starts with a generous thin circular outer base rim, to which the piece rests. The latter surround a beautiful large sunken recess that houses an intricately and sublimely ... moredetailed depiction of a spider positioned centrally amidst its web. The deeply engraved body of the spider includes copper wheel cutting, splicing, fine engraving, tooling and a technique known as sand blasting. The spiders head and torso consist of a series of deeply cut spheres whereby the creatures eight legs are created using copper wheel slicing. The spiders body has a silky stain mat appearance whereby it is also silky smooth to the touch. The creature has been centrally positioned amidst a ten sublime symmetrical sections that make up its webb. We were first attracted to the piece by its spectacular and quite mesmirizing shimmering and glistening topaz colouration which appears of a more stunning richer topaz hue around its basal edges. The weight has been expertly sliced with five large circular portals that are set at a slight angle around the weights side walls. The sixth and final circular portal is symmetrically positioned at the weights very summit whereby all six wheel cut window'd portals allow the viewer to glimpse the magical subject contained within. We have taken it to 3 different shops and they have all given us a different name for the pattern. So. look closely at the photos, you are the experts, not us! We are told this is called a console bowl that was made by the Lancaster Glass Company in the 1930's. It has one really cool bubble in the glass we were told was they when they manufactured it. It also has one nick on the bottom edge on the photo where my fingers were showing(we are not good at this) It is really not visable when the bowl is sitting right side up. Notice other listings list a nick as an irregularity. But, we call it a nick. When I put it up to the window there may be a nick on the top? Wonderful hand blown Topaz colored glass lily insert with paneled cut body and hand enameled floral decoration in shades of white and pale green. The glass insert is in excellent condition with no chips. Cracks or repairs. Appears that the upper rim has touches of gilt so it may have had a gilded band that is now worn(see photos) No other noted flaws. The silverplated stand is decorated with scrolls and florals and is in good condition with no noted damage. Marked on base although illegible.
