It was made by Watson and is stamped with that company's crown, w, lion hallmark on the underside, along with the words"Sterling Silver, the model number"M20, and the single number"8. The lid is marked"Sterling" and with the same number"8. It likely dates early 20th century. The form is traditional English Georgian. The rimmed base is tiered. Joined to a bulbous body. The cap is large, 3" high and 2 1/4" wide, and has a finial top that sits on a triple tier base that mirrors the foot. The piercing is a precisely rendered leaf and dot pattern. Lot of 47 Vintage Mini Baluster Cabinet Spindles. Salvage from kitchen cabinet
This is a Lot of 47 Vintage Mini Baluster Cabinet Spindles. Salvage from a kitchen cabinet railing about 40 years old. These are all in good condition but need cleaned. The wood appears to be Maple. They measure 2" long in total( 1.5" usable) x about 5/8" wide. It has a Round Funnel Bowl above a superb stem consisting of a Cushion Knop above a Baluster Knop above a further Cushion Knop with a central Beaded Air Knop above an Inverted Baluster Knop and a lower Basal Knop…magnificent. Sits on a dommed foot which has a rough snapped pontil. The glass is English lead. In immaculate condition with no chips cracks or restoration with a superb clarity of‘metal’ which the Newcastle ... moreLight Balusters were famous for. It measures 6 7/8 inches with a 2 11/16 inch bowl and 2 ¾ inch foot. Background on English Georgian Light Baluster Glasses English Georgian light baluster stems and Newcastle light balusters are without doubt the pinnacle of elegance in English Georgian drinking glasses. The glass or metal if you prefer has a propensity to be brighter than other English lead metal drinking glasses of the same period. Some academics have argued that they may have been produced on the continent rather than in Newcastle itself. The stems themselves feature series of complex knopping structures many with both air tears and beads that enhance yet further the brilliance of the glass. Composite stems. Part airtwist and part plain or opaque twist are also found. The bowls are typically larger than other drinking glasses of the same period with predominantly bell and round funnel shapes. The structure alone would rank them amongst the greatest drinking glasses ever made. Happy to answer any questions you may have. Kind regards. Alex We have a superb Georgian Jacobite Engraved Baluster Ale Glass which dates to 1720. It has a long generous deep Bell Bowl beautifully engraved with a large Jacobite Rose with an open bud and two leaves on the left hand side and a closed bud and two leaves on the right hand side. On the reverse we have a wonderfully engraved Beatle. Solid section to the base of the bowl above an excellent stem consisting of a large Annular Knop above a Triple Annulated Knop with plain sections above and below with a lower Basal Knop. Conical ... morefolded foot with rough snapped pontil. English lead. No chips cracks or restoration, this is an outstanding glass in its own right and was obviously hand picked to have the engravings added in around 1740. It measures an impressive 7 11/16 inches tall with a 2 5/8 inch bowl and 3 1/8 inch foot. Excellent dark color showing excellent striations and tooling. A few small light scratches to the bowl as shown, nothing serious and overall it’s in superb condition. The word‘Jacobite’ comes from Jacobus. The latin for James and the original Jacobites were supporters of James II who was deposed by his Daughter Mary II and her husband William of Orange. Later in the 18th cen it referred to those who favoured the return of the Stuart Dynasty. So Jacobitism was the political movement dedicated to the restoration of the Stuart Kings to the thrones on England, Scotland and Ireland. The main emblem of the Jacobites was the White Rose of York which is the central theme of the engraved glass. Although opinions do vary. It is reminiscent of the balconies seen in France and Italy. The table has four turned wood balusters on each end. The balustrades are notched at the top for added interest. Decorative wooden caps are found inside the notched section and serve to cover the baluster attachment screws. The table has a long, single stretcher that attaches the balusters together. Mortlake Pottery Baluster Style Hunting Jug Sterling Mounts Kishere
The Jug is 8 ½ inches tall and the base is 4 ½ inches diameter. The handle is broken and only two fragments survive. I have shown the top fragment to illustrate how it fitted. Other than this the jug is in mint condition. It is clearly marked“Kishere Moatlake” on the base. The Sterling silver rim is well fitted to the pinched spout and carries a London hallmark for 1803. The maker’s mark is“GL“and is stamped upside down so I have had to photograph the hallmark twice. GL is probably George Longestaffe. There is also a lion impressed on the inside of the lid. Up for auction is a recent estate find: a majestic early 20th century black walnut baluster from the bottom of a steep stairway. Standing a full 48" tall. At the top at its widest it measures 8 1/2" square, while the column is 6 1/4" square. Offered as a single lot are four matching 19th century antique wooden architectural columns dating ca. 1890. These turned and painted wooden porch spandrel spindles. Or balusters, were salvaged during the renovation of a Victorian era carriage house in Saratoga Springs, NY. Each antique spindle measures approx. 19.75 inches tall, with base and top measurements of approx. 2.5 inches square. The baluster spindles have a wonderful surface! They still retain most of their old, crackled, chippy white paint. The spindles stand on their own, if you wish to use them as mantel garnitures to flank an antique mirror or portrait. Wonderful antique iron baluster railings. Set of 2 matching pieces. The longer one measures 12 feet long. It is an angled section. The best I can approximate. It rises 4 feet over the 12 foot run. I think that makes it a 30 degree incline? It is very heavy(probably 200+ pounds) Missing some of the rings in the design, but still a nice run of rail overall. Rust isn't deep- mostly surface rust if any. You will get both sections pictured here. The smaller porch steps handrail is 3 feet long at level, then another 25" downhill. The difference in height of the 2 ground posts on the porch rail is 14" This means it is probably only meant for 2 or 3 steps. I'm putting this on ebay to see what interest there is for it. Taken from an old building in Portland. Maine. These spindles were made locally in Portland, Maine long time ago. Good condition considering age. Some have nails in them on top. There is paint/staining. Nice pieces to restore or whatnot.
