Beautiful desk covered with"old" appliques of fairies. Flowers, animals. et c. I believe this was more than likely a childrens desk because of it's size and of course a ll the whimsical appliques. I have been utilizing it as a Telephone Table as it is a perfect height. Not sure what kind of wood this is. But it is fairly heavy. Some of the flowers/appliques look to be hand painted and the whole desk is heav ily shellacked/sealed. Tall. But sturdy legs, the top has a back ledge and side ledges. One good sized drawer that slides relatively easily and a goodly amount of storage(phone books) on the open ledge beneath the drawer with a circular cut out. The desk is got a nice patina of muted honey color and dark wood and greens. The white knobs are probably not original to the desk. And there are some minor to moderate cracks on ... morethe top(see photo's) scratches. The cracks might just be the lacquer or vineer, either way they are not very deep. Antique Tiger Oak Desk, curved drawer fronts, Unusual, Vintage, French maybe
Antique Tiger Oak Desk This beautiful desk has been sitting in storage for 30 years. It looks really old. But I have no idea how old it is or where it came from. The number 126 is impressed into the underside of the desk, but I have found no other marks on it. There are 5 drawers on one side. And 5 false drawer fronts on the other. As you can see in the photos, 4 of the 5 drawer fronts are curved, and the drawer joints are dovetailed. There are keyholes in the drawers(no keyholes on the false fronts, see photo#1) All 5 drawer locks are present, but I do not have the key. I’m sure that the drawer pulls are not the originals, since the pulls on two of the drawers cover up the keyholes. All 4 caster wheels roll well. The wood grain is amazing. But there are several condition issues. Two of the boards that make up the desk top have separated(have ... morecome unglued) and some crazy person(not me) drove a couple of headless nails into the boards to hold them in place. The nail heads are double-circled in yellow in the last photo. When I flipped the desk over, I saw the nails coming through an inch or so. It looks like it would not be too difficult to push them out from the underside. Also, something was spilled on the top, maybe ink. The stain is circled in yellow. The four inside corners of the desk are banged up, due to being struck repeatedly by a chair. A yellow arrow points to the most seriously damaged corner. This is a gorgeous vintage SOLID wood desk. Yes it is made of real wood. Not cheap pressed board. It was also, MADE IN THE USA. Super top quality by Taylor Made of Jamestown Ny Table Co. Dates from approximately the 1940's-50's. Nice large size. The top measures 48" wide x 24" deep. 29.5" high. Kneehole is 20.5" wide and 23.5" high. This has 8 drawers, four on one side, 3 on the other. One drawer is a double deep one. There is one center drawer, which has a lock, but alas, no key. All drawers are dovetailed. The drawers have vintage brass hardware, which has a nice patina. This appears to be original. There is a turned"rope" like decoration around the entire top of the desk. Finish is a brown/red color and is lovely. This is a fabulous piece of furniture, and a great decorative piece. Unique antique solid wood mahogany 9 drawer desk with 8 legs. Tongue and groove construction. Clean for its age. My guess is this item could be 50-70 years old or more. Colonial or Early American? Looks like it was once a darker brown mahogany type color. No brand name or number could be found.It was re-finished after looking over the drawers. Hardware appears original. Desk is about 42 inches long. 20 inches wide. Stands 29 1/2 with the legs. If removed, height would be about 26 inches. 9 drawers! Center drawer is 15" wide, side drawers are 9" inches wide. Primitive Antique Apothecary Desk Top Cabinet From the home of an antique collector. This is a nice table top Cabinet. Nice original wood patina, I think the wood may be walnut but am not sure. There is a front paneled door that has a lock, but I do not have the key. Inside there are six compartments on the top and a small drawer on the bottom. The drawer has dove tailed corners in the front and a nice brass drawer pull. The back and bottom of the drawer may have been replaced, not sure. The sides of the cabinet have a lighter finish with a darker stain toward the back, I'm not sure why, maybe the cabinet was inside some sort of structure. The desk, 36" wide and 20 1/2" deep, is probably cherry with secondary woods of pine and oak. The substantial desk has a false top drawer over two small drawers over two graduated drawers.the fitted interior has two drawers on each side with a door middle and carved dividers.there is a hidden drawer for valuables. The top is dovetailed and a ledge is attached to the slant lid, probably for writing purposes. The brasses appear to be original, as are the locks. There is a possibility that the top drawer has been modified to create the hidden space in the interior.I'm pretty sure that the pull-outs to hold the lid have been replaced. At least one of the boards ... moreon the back has been replaced. The desk is quite dark and may be the original finish that needs a good cleaning and polish. Several of the drawer bottoms have been repaired due to wear.the drawers work well. There is a fairly deep mark on the lower part of the lid and some cracks on the top. This is an estate piece that has come down through the family(important, American descendants)the name of the family will be revealed to the buyer with provenance going back to the grandmother.
