This hard to find book titled GHOST LUMBERING TOWNS OF CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA 1970 by Thomas T. Taber III is a wealth of information to the railroad buff. Besides the illustrations on almost every one of the 376 pages. In the back of the book are charts listing the locomotive roster and mill summaries if the different operations. This is not just information on Laquin. Masten, Ricketts, and Grays Run. Also covered are Jamison City, Trexler, Turrel, Soneville, and more. Rusty Vintage LOG BOOM SPIKE Chain Logging Ship Boat MARITIME DECOR Nautical
This is a fantastic antique logging spike. That would be a great nautical decor item! I live on Puget Sound, and in the 1800s and 1900s, when loggers cut down many of our forests, they would chain together dozens or hundreds of logs in the water and haul them to the lumber mill. These spikes were driven into a log so that chains could be attached. This one measures about 6 3/8" long, shows plenty of character through it's rust, and a slight bend near tip, due to years of salt water and being beaten into logs with a hammer. Still quite solid! Made by the Stout sign Co. I am estimating it to be from the 1950's due to the green back. Nice shape with little paint loss(mostly left side edge top and bottom corner) The white is yellower than it appears which could be from sunlight or just staining. Two spots above"A" in Titan and Below"C" I am not sure if it will come off as I have not tried to clean it in any way. Here is an old blasting meter. This was actually used in the old coal mines. It comes in the original leather carry case. On the front of the case is a brass plate that reads: AUSTIN. USED IN 1833 EVER SINCE. The meter itself measures about 3" square. The plastic face plate has a crack in it, it is however still fully readable. Across the top of the meter face it says: BETHLEHEM INSTRUMENT CO. INC. Under the meter it says: BLASTING GALVANOMETER. I have no idea if it still works or not(I have nothing to blow up! Old Logging Tongs from the great White Pine Forests of Michigan.
For sale is a logging tong that is 27 inches high and 19 inches wide when extended. It weights approximately 18 lbs without packaging. Since I acquired the tongs from an elderly gentleman in Lake City Michigan. It's very possible that these tongs were used to harvest(or destroy depending on your view) the great While Pine Forests of Michigan. He also gave me his log gant; the wood part is in bad shape. The gant is not included because it would be difficult to package and ship.

Lake Chelan. Washington, 1927 This is a rare and unique set of blueprint maps or plans that show the layout of the King Solomon Mill Site in Lake Chelan. Washington, and a cross-section of the site. Both are printed on light parchment-like paper, are somewhat brittle from age, and are blank on the reverse. The small one measures 22 by 9.75 inches and is titled"Chelan Electric Co. Map Showing Property to Be Acquired in King Solomon Mill Site- L. Chelan. Scale 1"=50. Chelan Wash. April 20 1927" and"Survey No. 1078B, S. J. Gray" and U.S. Patent number and date of 1915. Before anyone questions this signs. It was purchased from a Forest Service surplus/scrap sale. I can supply documentation that shows it was purchased. COMMERCIAL TRAFFIC ON THIS ROAD IS USING C.B. CHANNEL…evidently the number was written or attached) This does not have the Forest Service logo. But I guarantee it to be authentic Forest Service. It is USFS brown. This measures about 24 by 48 inches. It is an aluminum sign. This was never used, but there are scratches and rubs from storage, and some discoloration from age to the front. New Hampshire, and contains hundreds of entries dating from August 25th, 1857 to January 25th, 1861. Contents pertain exclusively to the operation of a sawmill owned by Liscom. Entries include the sawing and cutting of wood. Numerous wood cut measurements, slabs of cord wood, hauling and splitting of logs, timber, strips, shingles, floor planks, box lids, pail bottoms, picket fence rails, railroad ties[sleepers" joists, pump logs, clapboards, lumber, chestnut, oak, cherry, hard pine, white pine, hemlock, spruce, etc. Ledger provides a fascinating glimpse into the workings of a New England sawmill over 150 years ago, along with a treasure trove of local genealogy by way of numerous customer names. Situated in the southwestern corner of the state, Hinsdale was chartered in 1753. Graduated from Harvard College, Hinsdale was ordained to become a missionary for Indians of the Connecticut River Valley.
