Up for auction is a vintage good working condition Powerstat varible speed autotransformer. It is made by the superior electric company in Bristol conn. It is working fine. I tested it on a lathe and a light. It is a model 3pn116B. see picture# 2 for further item specifics) out side of the dirt. Scratches, dents and dings; there is a minor issue with the rubber outer casing of the electric cord. see picture#4) Where the cord enter the housing the cords outer casing is spit. The electric wires are still in good shape, there is no exposed wiring, and there is no shorts. I think this is an easy fix, But I don't think it is a neccesary fix. Great for use by Radio Collectors to slowly power up that old radio that has been sitting for many years! Zenith Variac 230V 8A 2kVA variable autotransformer
This is a genuine Variac variable autotransformer. Made by Zenith Electric Company. It's old- I don't know exactly how old- but works well. I've tested it on a 230V mains supply and the no-load input current was 350mA(so there are no shorted turns) and the output varied smoothly from zero to 230V. I checked its insulation resistance at 500V and it's well over 20MOhm, as it should be. There seems to be plenty of wear left in the brush. The terminals have their nuts and washers present. It has a 230V input and both 115V fixed and 0-230V variable outputs. So it's a really handy device. It's rated at 8 amps or a maximum of 2kVA at full output. It's a big. Heavy beast, weighing about 11kg and measuring about 170x200x150mm, not including the shaft(which is 19mm or 3/4" diameter by 33mm long) There is no knob included, ... morebut there is a circular scale which is marked 0-230V on one side and 0-100% on the other.
