The are considered the creme de la creme of microphone transformers, evident by their demand and lofty prices. These Breitband are very comparable to the Newmann, and why wouldn't they be, they are made by the company that makes Neumann microphones and transformers. This SUT. Like the others I have, is meticulously constructed with Cardas silver wire, 6% silver solder, and methodically wired with military like point to point wiring. They are then inspected under magnification to ensure that each solder joint is virtually flawless. Once this is determined, they are auditioned using tube audio; Marantz Model 5's, Fisher 400CX-2, and Garrard 301 turntable. They are given two independent testings using a Denon 103 and an Ortofon 85th Anniversary SPU, by two different people using pristine MFSL or similar audiophile pressings. This setup is delicious. It has a 1:45 turn ration which provides incredible gain to virtually any moving coil cartridge. Even those with tiny micro volt outputs. It is well rounded through the entire frequency response. When I first auditioned them I was taken aback by their full warm sound. The passive step up transformer is least understood among all the audio components. It creates very little distortion. Almost immeasurable, and good transformers such as these, not only do their intended job of increasing the low output of moving coil cartridges so that they can be used in preamps with moving magnet inputs.
