Neon Transformer 9030 Franceformer 1992 Midpoint Grounded
Neon light transformer converts household 110 volts to 9000 volts at 30 mA current to power neon signs and tubes. Made for use within signs. We found this one during a sign removal. It looked as if it was never installed still inside a very badly deteriorated box up in a service access for a strip mall. It was a long crawl to get there and they probably either forgot it or deliberately left it behind. Tested and working fine. Dated 1992, and has the midpoint ground feature I am not very familiar with. This type of wiring was phased out before I began working with neon. It was wired without this connection in photo. These are very heavy to ship so shipping will depend on destination, with flat rate box used when it makes sense. Weight 15 pounds for shipping. Size is about 11 inches long.

This means that this is perfect for tesla coils and jacobs ladders because it will not turn off when short circuited! Only transformers like this. Or GFI disabled transformers will work for such projects! This is perfect for a tesla coil and was actually removed from my old tesla coil. So I know it works great! It still works perfectly.

This is a very rare new old stock Cold Cathode transformer. I believe the year of manufacture would have been the 40s-60s it can run two neon cold cathode units. The label is a bit tattered but the primary voltage is 120. The secondary voltage is 750. The secondary mili amps are 120. Because of its age the cloth covered wires are brittle but can still be used. Though care must be given to them before use. My family has been in the neon business since 1946. I was raised around this business and I myself have run the business for over 20 years. So I know way too much about neon Transformers. In fact I will suggest that I know more about neon Transformers than most people in the industry. The transformers that I am selling have been checked out thoroughly. There are several ways that you must check a transformer. You cannot simply hook it up ... moreto a neon circuit and say that it's working properly. You cannot also just check the milliamps and suggest that it is working properly. Both the"new old stock" and the used transformers that I am selling.And I'm selling all different sizes and all different conditions. First of all they are checked on both the primary and the secondary windings. For the correct ohms reading. each transformer has a different reading. Then they milliamp reading is taken. And of course a simple spark test. And lastly a full load circuit test is taken. If you buy a transformer that has not been cared for or has been left in a bad neon circuit situation. The secondary windings start to short out amongst themselves. Meanwhile this will create excessive heat within the transformer and cause the transformer to start leaking the potting material or in some cases the tar. If some of the secondary windings have shorted, the transformer will still light a neon circuit and the milliamps may even read correctly.
