For auction is one vintage. 1960s-era All Steel Equipment metal swivel chair in fantastic original condition. It is painted a silvery gray color and is upholstered in green vinyl. The upholstery is in perfect condition; not a stitch out of place and free rips, nicks or stains. There is one faint scratch on the back of the back pad, which you can see in the photos. The beautiful, curved base features black plastic protector plates on the ends, and the armrests are made of the same black plastic. The metal parts are free of dings and dents, and the paint is in excellent condition overall, though there are small scuffs and scratches common to use. Much less than one would expect on a chair this age, however. The majority of the scratches are confined to the area where the armrests attach to the backrest(see photos) All mechanical features function ... moreproperly. The entire chair has been thoroughly cleaned, polished and detailed, and the casters will be cleaned and re-lubricated prior to shipping. DIMENSIONS: Seat is 18" wide by 19" deep. 1983 Herman Miller Aluminum Group Swivel Chair Mid Century Modern Eames, Red
Very solid chair and everything works. Swivel, tension for back and wheels all are great. Fabric has no tears just normal wear and looks it's age. The seat batting need to be changed. It wouldn't take much, there is a zipper hidden on the lower back cushion to access it. I recently removed the filler and turned it backwards but it's uneven and I should have just left it as it was. I would recommend having an upholsterer do it, he may want to use memory foam or just new batting. Aluminum frame is very nice and just shows mormal finish patina wear. This is from 1983 as you can see on bottom stamp and# label. Has the Herman Miller logo on tag as well. Very comfortable chair and will last another 30 years with care. The Hon Company is the second largest commercial office furniture maker in the US. I was surprised to see none of their furniture for sale on Ebay in used condition but I guess that is because companies don't sell on eBay. Commercial office furniture is much different than the stuff you buy at retail stores. Commercial office furniture is much heavier and designed for someone sitting in it 8 hours per day for several years. I could not find a new chair exactly like this one but saw enough to determine this chair cost about $600 new. There are minor signs of use on the chair which are pictured but there are no mechanical problems or significant cosmetic issues. The chair has approximately 90% of it's useful life left and is very comfortable. I happen to have an identical chair in the same condition if you need a pair.
