The1920's era and measuring a good 68" x 19" It has its original label still attached although this refers to'Oma Pillow Cases Guaranteed' and this is definitely a bolster case but open at both ends so could easily be turned into a pair of cases with little effort. There are two lines of drawn threadwork across the opening edges and the colour is cream. Although I think this is the finish wash and it will launder to white. It is very grubby and age stained from being badly stored so will need a good laundering but it is a substantial case with a lovely feel to it. Victorian Thread Tree or Spool Holder& Pin Cushion Rare Sewing Antique 1880's DESCRIPTION This is a very hard to find. Rare Victorian thread tree complete with vintage spools of thread. It is made of metal and has six metal rods that each hold two spools of thread in place for a total of 12 spools of thread. A magnet sticks to the metal which appears to be iron with nickel plating. The top portion serves as a pin cushion. To add or remove spools you pull the rods out. To use the thread, you can simply pull it off the spool with the spool still in place on the thread tree. You can also spin the thread around to select your color. The height of the thread tree is 7 1/2 inches to the top of the metal plus another inch for the fabric pin cushion. The base is 3 1/4 inches in diameter. In regard to condition. The metal looks good and isn't ... moreshowing any oxidation problems. The overall appearance is good especially for a 120+ year old piece. There are some minor condition issues. Where the shaft of the thread tree joins the pin cushion holder, there are three small stress cracks(photo shows the larger one) and the tree shaft is not 100% straight(see photos) The fabric forming the pin cushion is new and has been replaced, but everything else, including the wooden spools of thread, is old.
