1959 Gibson LG-1 Vintage Player Grade Acoustic, LR Baggs iBeam, Brazilian, Ivory
1959 Gibson LG-1. I picked this up in North Carolina from the original owner. Condition when I acquired it: Owner had it painted red in the'70s. Along with his band mates, to match the drummer's kit. He doesn't recall if the paint is poly or nitro. Blemishes abound. Nothing major. But as you may expect for a 53 year old instrument its seen some action. It came with Grovers and an unknown pickup system that didn't work. Nut and plastic saddle were fit to be trashed. Neck was/is set nicely. I do not think a reset is required. Width at nut- 1.675" just less than 1 11/16" Typical seam separation near D post(see pic) Repaired in the'80s and stable. Frets are in fine shape. Little wear. Owner doesn't recall if it was refretted. Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and bridge are BEAUTIFUL(see pics) Truss rod adjusts ... morejust fine. Non original truss rod cover. Bridge plate(inside) degraded. But solid. Improvements made in my tenure: New relic'd tuners installed. West African hard ivory nut and saddle crafted and installed. Brass bridge plate saver installed. Adds beautiful clarity. Sustain and stops degradation. Frets polished. Martin D-18 GE pickguard re-shaped and installed. LR Baggs iBeam installed- controls incorporated into new 25k pots for volume and tone. A la J-160e. Control knobs are authentic Gibson reflectors aged by me. Noteworthy: I listed this earlier but pulled it due to tuners being unstable. I have since installed new relic'd Gotoh tuners. The Brazilian rosewood bridge plate appears original and is firmly adhered- no lifting. Neck is straight and true. A full C shape. It plays beautifully and is very comfortable. Binding is in good condition. Some very minor delam. But insignificant. The LR Baggs system sounds very natural. And the controls vary output and tone shaping nicely. Original era case in very good condition- as sturdy as they come. Some tape scars on the latch side. Wires hold the handle. The guitar is ready for its next custodian. While it's not mint. It&#

This is an excellent DH stem as it is extremely stiff. This thing is all about control. It is bomb proof! Gibson J-45(S/N= 96XX 7) Small pickguard and 19 frets dates it to about 1953. I know what you’re thinking: natural finish.it’s a J-50…WRONG! When I purchased this guitar in 1970. The previous owner had SANDED off the sunburst finish(hey, Lennon did the same thing to his J-160E and Epiphone Casino) At that time I sprayed a couple of coats of Clear Gloss Nitrocellulose Lacquer to seal the top. Over the past 40+ years the top has yellowed nicely and the lacquer has crazed as you would expect. That being said. The top has been“Non-professionally” refinished. There is an area between the end of the fret board and rosette where the original finish remains(see photos) Original finish on sides, back, and neck. More bad news: Tuners are All-Parts Kluson copies. Truss rod cover is new. GOOD NEWS: Neck has been reset and bridge reglued. Partial refret ... more1-5(Cowboy frets” and frets leveled with a new nut. Loose braces reglued. L.R. Baggs Active iBeam under saddle pick-up with end pin jack was installed at this time. All work was done by Marguerite at Fret Not Guitar Repair. Action = 6.5/64” low E) 5/64” high E) Intonation is spot on. Overall Condition: 60 years of dings. Scratches, and gouges. Back has some minor beltbuckle“worming” but no rash with(1) ¼” diameter bare wood spot. There are three cracks on the back: 1) 3 ½” 1) 1 ½” 1) 1 ¾” There is also a 2” crack on the side(near the treble lower bout) These cracks have been there since I bought the instrument and on further inspection my luthier determined that the cracks were of the surface variety and did not need repair. The back of the neck has some dings and dents and the finish is worn off near the low“E” string at frets 2-3(it’s the“G” chord) Fret board has a few shallow“divots” on the treble side near B&E strings between frets 1-3. 1999 Martin DM Acoustic Guitar with new LR Baggs Ibeam pick-up and hard case
I'm about to upgrade so I've decided to part with my'99 DM(spruce/mahogany) It's only had two owners and the other is Andy Thacker(from the band Love Canon) so it's been very well played. Loved and nicely broken in. It's got some pick wear below the pick guard around the bridge(see the photos) but that just tells you how much it's been played. And when you play it, you'll see how wide open it is. It definitely has the classic Martin"thump. Had the nut and bridge/saddle replaced in 2011 by John Hamlett, a luthier from Lovingston, Virginia. And just those two things REALLY improved the sound quality, since he used bone for the nut and the saddle. Rare TRINITY COLLEGE TG-100 Guitar 000 12 fret cutaway Mahogany / Cedar w/ Ibeam
These Trinity College guitars are hard to find now. They got great reviews when they were being sold about ten years ago but I think the market for them was very limited. They are not made anymore. This model TG-100 is a 000 size and has all solid very nicely figured mahogany back and sides and a beautiful solid red western cedar top. The neck is also beautifully figured solid mahogany. It is in very nice condition and plays easily with low action and no buzzing all the way up the neck. There is one indentation in the top behind the bridge which I have photographed. The finish is not scratched through there. Just indented. There is also an indentation in the upper part of the top in the armpit area. It's too difficult to photograph. There is some light scuffing in the finish where the pick guard should be, but there is no pick guard. ... moreAlso the original Waverly style tuning machines were switched out to Gotoh tuners by the original owner and the old screw holes are still visible on the back of the headstock. Those are all the cosmetic flaws. Structurally the guitar is in great condition. The original owner also installed a L.R. Baggs Ibeam pickup that sounds great, and there is a Planet Waves O-Port in the sound hole for feedback reduction which can be easily removed. This is a great sounding guitar and you barely need to touch it to get huge volume out of it. It's perfect for finger style playing which is what it was really designed for. It has a 1 3/4" nut and 2 5/16 string spacing and a very comfortable neck profile. The twelve frets to the body configuration pushes the bridge further back toward the middle of the top which opens up the soundboard to a bigger sonic dimension and the cutaway gives you all the access you need to upper frets. This is a very cool guitar not only for finger style playing but it also lends itself nicely to single note pick work and light strumming. L R Baggs ibeam Acoustic Guitar Pickup w/free Artec pickup
Here is my ibeam transducer. I bought it new a few months ago and had a luthier install it inside my Levin Acoustic. It turned out that these p/ups are for standard X braced guitars(which should have been researched before installation) acoustics which apparently most American and many other acoustics are. My Levin isn't and so I had to remove the ibeam and buy a soundhole pickup. The luthier replaced the original barrel/socket with a longer one to go through the thicker end block in the Levin. So if your guitar has a thicker block(or indeed a thinner block) it will be fine. I'm including a brand new Artec flexible PC85 undersaddle transducer. As this too is not suitable for my guitar.
