Belden Machine Co Hand Forged Roofing Slate Breaking T Anvil Good Shape
You are bidding on ONE Belden Machine Co Hand Forged Roofing Slate Breaking T Anvil. Measuring 16 1/2" long. 7 9/16" high, and this weighs 1 lb 14 1/4 oz unboxed. The Belden Machine Co was a New Haven CT manufacturer of stone tools and hammers who started around 1885. This is in good shape and was cleaned. There is some overall light patina. The edge is good other than some small spots of pitting. There is but a whisker of mushrooming on the center from being driven into the stake. The spike is good. Belden slate roofing hammers are considered to be one of the best ever made and this guy is every bit a quality tool. I'm going to plug this into the shipping calculator at the 2- 3 lb rate but it will fit a Flat Rate box so the maximum shipping anywhere in the USA will be $13.00. Each piece is nominally 12" x 7" and it was originally installed with a 5" exposure, at that rate this would cover approximately 120 square feet. This slate came from a university in the Boston area. These are Antique roof tiles made into ART. This tile features a Scottie Dog hand painted on a more than 175 year old roofing slate tile. Produced in New Orleans. The actual Roofing slate tiles were mined in Pennsylvania and transported down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers on rafts and became the roofing material after the disastrous fire of 1795. Each one was individually hand shaped. This one came from one of the old buildings in the New Orleans and dates back to the late 1700's and early 1800's. Tile Measures approx. 8" wide x 14" tall. There are holes bored with rope for hanging tile. Slate tile is more than 175 years old. Considered antique collectable New Orleans Art. Note there is a chip off a corner.
