Simple transistor checkers that are built into multimeters DO NOT account for leakage, and therefore give inaccurate readings about the actual gain of the transistors. I constructed a purpose-made testing circuit that checks the exact gain and leakage of each transistor, taken at room temperature(80 degrees Fahrenheit) Each transistor was left alone in the circuit until the finger heat dissipated, and the readings stabilized. The gain readings will change with temperature, due to the nature of the germanium elements. High drive version. Uses 4 SD1446. DC power cord is 4 feet long. With 25 watts in high position runs 350 pep. On the low position 25 in 200 out. I don't have any radios capable of more than 25 watts but i would say, in high max should be 50 watts pep input in high and 75 in low. Linear is tested and working fine. Will not be DOA Like all linears be careful with voltage polarity. Use an antenna with low swr, don't over drive it and use a cooling fan in the unit. The story: This amp was working great at our church until the input jack was broken. The bad: A repair guy wannabe replaced the jack but took it apart by removing the heat sink from the main transistors. Needles to say DON'T EVER DO THAT! He put it back together and didn't get all the insulators put back between. When he powered it up. POP the transistors arced and sparked. Has not been powered up since. I took it to a pro tech and he scoped it and said most likely it was the transistors. I circled them in one of the photos. The knobs have been re-purposed. The GOOD: Everything else tested good. Caps are in great shape. LEDs. Pots, transformer, jacks, switches etc. all in great shape. This board is usable in both the 65 and 35 model. No heat sink cage(see picture) Truly a turn-key set up. Electric parts from 1950's and 1960's era. radio and television usage. comes from the home workshop of a TV and radio hobbyist of that era. I can not test these parts to determine if they work. I do not see solder on the parts which may mean they have not been used. On the other hand the wires of many of the parts have been bent indicating to me the parts have been used. I played guitar from the later 60's to the earlier 70's. so it was purchased by me in that time frame. I am the original owner and I have not seen anyone at this point sell a better conditioned box. This box sounds great. I have investigated various sites and I believe that this may very well be a 1971 issue? It does not have the set screws on the side and with the"hit it! label below. Vintage 1966 Vox V828 Tone Bender Fuzz W/OC and SFT Ge transistors-Killer fuzz
Thanks for looking. Just got this in and the odds were in my favor. A germanium fuzz that is nearly all original and has that magic sound. I have consulted with buddy's that have owned Zoink. Octavia, UK made Tone Benders, Selmer Fuzz, and other holy grail fuzz boxes. Their opinion is that the fuzz in my listing is nearly all original. Germanium's include an SFT and Mullard OC. I believe this is the first Tone Bender Vox had made at the Jen Factory in Pescara, Italy. The round Ducati cap@ 150,000pF is factory. The carbon film resistors, Facon electrolytic and of course the mustard cap are original. I had to rivet the battery holder back onto the bottom plate and the battery connector is aftermarket. This sounds amazing, does not cut out, no stutter, and is a mean machine. I have tried it with many guitars and it loves all of them, ... morebut single coils the most. These are in the original box but the box has some damage. Both antennas are damaged. Looks like the last extension piece is missing on both and one is pinched on the top. The one that is pinched will extend out up until the pinched piece and with needle nose pliers I could extend the other one out. They both come on and have static. The lights and morse code work but doesn't light up the light on the other radio when you push it which is how I think they're supposed to work. The one with the pinched antenna doesn't pick up the other radio when you talk but you can talk in it and hear it on the other radio. Not sure if its because the antenna or another reason. One is missing the strap and battery cover. Both have Noble scratched on back from previous owner. Selling as is. Seldom seen. Immaculate 1956 Raytheon transistor set. A ll electrolytics have been replaced with fresh units and receiving extremely well with room filling volume and about 24 stations received during the day here in the Northshore Boston area. I have been careful to retain the originality of the radio and have left the original obsolete battery connection in place. But I have"tacked in" a new four-D"battery holder for up to date operation. The only flaw I can point out is the leather tab for opening the rear cover has torn away as I'm sure most have over the years. All chrome and brass has been polished.
