The strange thing is the cap/cover. With the small square on top. I carefully removed the four cover screws to take a peek at what was under there. I was suprised to find no points or condensor. There are three wires connecting the coil to what appears to be an electronic module in the cover. I've never seen a magneto like this. Please study the pictures. I have an adapter for my cordless drill and it spins nice and throws a good blue spark out of both posts. The spring is nice and strong and snaps real good. Here is a sharp looking rebuilt replacement Fairbanks Morse FMJ4A11B 4 cylinder magneto made for early International Harvester applications according to the magneto factory service manual. It is base mounted and turns counterclockwise unlike most and may work in other installations requiring counterclockwise rotation and a 35 degree impulse lag. It is most likely used for starting ignition on the very early Diesel tractors like the TD35. TD40 and WD40. Check your parts book to be sure. Ore products like the S&W and Champion Dragsaws, the famous flextread garden tractor Models W and S, and the Mighty Midget Mobilift. Check your parts book to be sure. It may work well in other installations needing a base mount, clockwiise rotation and a 25 degree lag. This listing is for a Fairbanks Morse magneto. it is VERY HOT. SHOTS FIRE LIKE CRAZY. It is 30 degrees and turns RH. it is a type J4B3 it will fit the Allis chalmers letter series tractors. B-WD. This magneto does have the hard to find kill switch on the backside. I believe these were used only on a few years on the model WC. it should work on other AC tractors. You may have to change the kill switch. I cleaned it removed the impulse and cleaned it as well. It has a newer style coil. The points look good. I replaced the inside distributor cap with a used cap. I do not see anything cracks in either cap. Anyone who has been around a Fairbanks magneto knows how easy it is to damage the inner cap. The gears look pretty good. They do show normal wear. Fairbanks Morse J Magneto 1B2 Hit and Miss Engine Z C-52 3Hp
Up for auction is a Fairbanks Morse J magneto that fits a 3hp ZC-52 3hp closed crank throttle governed engine. This mag has been rebuilt and is very nice and hot. Also looks almost like new. Installed $142 worth of parts. New cap. New points, New condenser, and New coil. The gear is about 2-3/4" diameter and has 25 teeth with one of them beveled for timing. Center of gear is about 1-3/8" from the flange that would mount against engine. It may fit other engines but im not sure. Thanks for looking!

It turns clockwise. it is a replacement magneto for the fairbanks Morse J4B3 or X4B3 magneto. This magneto has a kill screw terminal on both sides of the housing. it is in very good condition. Fairbanks Morse Tractor Engine Magneto Clockwise Gear Drive
This is a Fairbanks Morse magneto and I don't know what it came off of. I was able to get an intermittent spark out of all four ports but have no way of checking how hot the sparks are. That is why I listed it as parts or not working. Rotation is clockwise as your facing the drive. It has a gear drive as you can see from the pictures. The rotor has two pieces broken out of it but it still slides on tightly and should still be useable(see pictures# 10& 11) May need new gaskets. Spark advance snaps as it should. Please look at pictures carefully to determine value for yourself. Adding items from time to time. Please check out my other items.
