In above average condition. The exhaust pipe bolt flange is very nice with no broken ears. The area where the exhaust sits is not eaten away at. The gasket surfaces are very good. The surface to the cylinder head will need a little more clean up. But it looks like you will be able to use it with out resurfacing the manifold. The inside of the manifold is clean, with no carbon build up. All the stud bolt holes are perfect and the manifold is not cracked or broken out around any of them. The part number is nice and crisp. Theres one flywheel spline that has a little rust pitting on it but its still Nice and Straight. Clutch Drive Splines are Excellent. Journals are rusty and will have to be turned, polishing wont be enough to clean them up. Crank turned freely in the main bearings and it wasn't seized up. I had to gentle heat the top bolts castle nut to get it loose, But no damage was done. Crankshaft turned freely in the tractor and wasn't seized at all. John Deere Late Unstyled& All Styled D Series Engine Cylinder Block. Casting Number is D1716R. Came out of a 1940s D Tractor. This Block is Standard Bore. Block has been Degreased. Acid Dipped and Magnafluxed by a Professional Machine Shop. No Breaks, Welds or Repairs. Guaranteed to be a Crack and Leak Free Core Casting. One Bottom Stud for mounting the pivot plate is gone, and it will need a new water drain plug/pipe installed. Cylinder Walls are Standard Bore but do show some rust and pitting. Im not sure if it will clean up well enough to be able to use standard bore pistons or not. Bid Knowing you may choose to bore it out. VERY VERY RARE BLOCK.
