Great memories came back to me when I found my grandfathers old fishin' box in the rafters of his garage. My first introduction to deep sea fishing was with him. He always kept his gear organized and clean. This box is in very good condition and is clean. With very few dings. But NO dents. There are a couple of so called worm burns in the plastic trays. There are no reels or valuable lures in this box. Just some basic tools, leaders, weights, hooks, etc. Sorry, but I am keeping for the memories, the antique lures and some favorite stuff my grandfather and I used together to show me how to fish. It comes with 2 original keys and the original advertising paper that had the price on it. The box is 15" wide. 8" front to back, and about 8" high not including the handle. The two tiers of compartments are aluminum. The lock on the front is brass. The keys are steel. This comes from the inside of the paper: This new UNION Tackle Box is made of 40% FIBERGLASS reinforced polyester. The color is permenantly[sic] molded in. The fibers you see throughout the material resist stress from every direction like the steel ... moremesh embedded in concrete highways. It's light. There are stains, some rust stains from contents(probably old steel stringers) in the bottom, but aluminum itself does not rust so the box is not compromised from any self-corrosion. There are dents. Antique Vintage Medium Sized Wooden Block & Tackle Pulley-Great Patina!
Up for auction is a great antique block and tackle. This wooden pulley has nice vintage charm. As you can see the wood has obvious signs of wear and age. This piece measures 15 1/2" in overall length. The wooden block measures 5" long and 4" wide and 4 1/2" thick. T he hook itself measures approx. 4" wide and 6 1/2" long. This is quite heavy. Wow. This is a very unusual piece! A must have for the die hard tackle collector. It is a very early brass tackle box believed to be from the 20s but can not be verified. Very good chance this was a one off. 14" long x 3 1/2" diameter. The tag plate reads as follows"Tacklescope, reg us pat off, patent pending, Barry, Muscatine, Iowa, no.2" I do not believe the patent was ever approved since there is no record that I can find of it. Recently my husband and I inherited some items from his elderly uncle who passed away. This box was among those items. It is a green plastic marble design box marked Plano Plas-Tak. Plano, Illinois. I am guessing it is from the 50's. There are no major defects on the box except for light scratching on the bottom and it needs a good cleaning on the outside and inside. Brass colored locking mechanism works fine. Inside it is full of fishing stuff, old lures, hooks, a bobber, split-shot(whatever that is) and various other items. We really didn't look through it or take anything out of it-just not our cup of tea. Perhaps someone out there would find some use for it. This is a vintage item, and may show signs of wear or use. This came from a Western Auto Store going out of business sale in the 1970's. The box is an orange color with some scratches and scrapes from use and shelf wear. There are dings and small dents on the top of the box(please see photos) Tray inside is intact with no cracks or chips. There is some discoloration of the plastic, and the mounting brackets are tight and move smoothly. The latch for the box is slightly off but appears to have been made that way, it does latch tightly and releases easily. Handle on top of box is a heavy white plastic and is secure and strong.
