Rare Vintage Lightnin Model F Clamp-on Stand Mixer Chemical Lab Industrial Motor
I acquired this from an elderly gentleman that I know who used to be an aerial photographer in the Korean War. He then went on to work at Eastman Kodak Co. here in Rochester which is how he came into possession of the mixer. I found an old advertisement from the 1957 American Chemical Society with a very similar looking mixer marked"Model F" I believe this particular mixer is a bit older than the one in the ad. The metal tag is marked Serial#456776. 110 volt, CYC 60, PHS 1 Mixing Equipment Co. Inc. Rochester, NY USA. The mixer runs well and has variable speeds. The stainless steel prop shaft is 12" long but it will adjust up into the body of the mixer for different lengths. The length of the mixer motor is 8 1/2" long x 3 3/4" in diameter. The plastic handle is still in great condition. There are no breaks. Chips ... moreor missing pieces from the mixer body. The adjustable ball arm is made from solid brass and clamps onto a 9/16" diameter x 25" long steel rod. Each leg on the white heavy cast steel base is about 9" long from the center rod hole. There is a bit of rust on the bottom of the base. The power cord is 5'7" long. This very unique mixer with its stand would make a great piece for a collector or it could be repurposed into an industrial art piece. This item is very heavy. Stainless Tank in the crate from Equipment Exchange in Lake City. PA. This was purchased by a computer manufacturing facility. Not sure why they had it though. Has a ladish valve on it But was never taken out of the crate or used by them. This was a preowned tank they purchased. It has some sort of electric digital controls on the side of the tank. This machine has dual sigma style mixing blades to mix the product and a screw type discharge screw to extrude the mixed material from the machine. The entire system consists of the main mixing machine. The control cabinet and the temperature control system. Mixing chamber can be evacuated with the onboard vacuum pump. The sigma blades are powered with a 10HP gearhead motor and the extruding screw is powered with a 7.5HP gearhead motor. Motor speed is controlled and monitored by two AC drives that are housed in the vertical control cabinet. Control cabinet also houses all of the fuses, contactors, overloads and control buttons for the system. The temperature regulation system uses electric heaters to heat oil which is then circulated to the jacketed mixing bowl. ... moreThese double arm sigma mixers can be used for base silicones and rubber. Mastics, glue, high viscosity adhesives, composite material, color and pigments, special lubricants, brakes compounds, explosives and abrasive products, fine chemicals and more. Machine was wired for 380 V three phase 50 hertz. The motors can run on either 50 or 60 Hz and 400 to 460V. The VFDs appear to be 415 V specific. And 50 to 60 Hz. Other than the VFDs there are not many components to the control system that would need to be considered. To run this system on US electrical service the following changes would need to happen: Method A Power machine with a 460 to 400 V transformer Method B 1. Change VFDs to a 460V units 2. Change control transformer to 460/24V unit instead of 400/24V unit 3. Thermal overloads may need to be changed The temperature control unit consists of electric heaters and the heater controlling components.
