When you turn the switch off. There is a several minute delay before it switches your light off. According to the advertisment, this would give the user time to get into bed or move out of the room before the lights went of. An interesting concept I must say, too bad it never really caught on making this a pretty rare item. The unit does click several minutes after flipping the switch so I am guessing it still works. I cannot say how reliable these were or are since the item is so old. The packaging is great with Arthurs face printed on it along with the sales pitch! Item packaging is good with no major damage. Offered is this antique porcelain electrical"knife switch" with wood handle. I'm assuming the metal is copper but I'm not certain. On the bottom is"LEVITON 9913. Measures 2 5/8" X 2" X 1 1/16" The wooden handle moves the switch from side to side. There are two dark spots on the porcelain. There is a very small chip on the top at one of the screws. This RARE 10 THROW knife switch came out of a residential. Single family home in Lakewood, Ohio. The home is a very nice, well-appointed residence built in 1908 in the"fancier" section of town. This switch was in the master bedroom and was connected to every light in the house. My best guess is that it. If you were in your bedroom at night, you could throw the switch, light up the house and scare an intruder. When we found the switch during a recent updating of the wiring of this home, the switch was still connected to the 1908 wiring throughout the house, although the switch itself was behind a wall. It's a fantastic piece. And I've enjoyed showing it to my friends over the past couple of years. I am now willing to part with it.
