Harris Visible No. 4 Typewriter, Looks Great & Works Great, Antique c. 1912-13
This Harris Visible No. 4 typewriter is in really nice shape. There are a few blemishes consistent with its 100 years of existence. But they aren't too noticeable and in most areas the original black finish is in very good condition. Please look closely at the photos for the best description of the cosmetic condition of this piece as there are a few small places where the finish is chipped off or has a slight amount of corrosion. As far as I can tell. The machine works perfectly. On the earliest models. Which this is apparently one of, the Harris company gave a lifetime guarantee. The unit is very solid and well built. Nothing flimsy about any of the mechanisms. The only flaw with this specimen is that the tabular stops are missing from the back bar. So when the Tab button is pushed, the carriage slides left until it reaches the end or ... moreuntil the button is released. Everything else seems to work fine. Even the bell has a nice ding to it. All of the buttons function as intended. I did wipe down the exterior portions of the typewriter. But made no attempt to clean or lubricate any of the internal mechanical parts. Take a look at the video of me using it(rather clumsily since it's been a while since I used a machine with full length keystrokes) The Harris Visible No. 4 has three rows of keys(28 in total. Three-bank style) and a double shift function, so when"CAP" is depressed capital letters type up and pressing the"FIG" button types whatever character is at the top of the letter key. The right-side CAP and FIG keys can be locked in place and released by pushing another button. It makes for a very compact and streamlined keyboard with fewer moving parts. The return can be set to single. Double, or triple space, and the platen can be easily removed by lifting a lever on either side. There is also a lever on the front to reverse the direction of the ribbon feed. The ribbon on this one has a little bit of life in the middle of it. But would probably need replacing if the machine were to be us

The bosal has a rawhide core and is made of a rich carmel colored butter soft kangaroo leather with natural rawhide and ca rmel roo leather inlays giving this bosal tons of eye appeal. It's a stunning color combination. The soft leather is great for younger horses or those with sensitive noses. A fabulous large pineapple heel knot with carmel inlays finishes the look of this bosa l. This bosal is very finely plaited on the nose. Not sure of the exact plait count but you can tell by ... morethe pics it is a higher plait. Bosal has nice flex and feel. This was used for show only. It is in excellent condition. Which began in 2008, was created for several reasons including to fill the void of philatelic covers depicting African Americans and Black Heritage, to educate collectors about Black stamp subjects or topics of interest, and to express Black culture in an atypical medium. The official first cachet was Charles Waddell Chesnutt whom cachet maker Don Neal wanted to depict in a way that was unique and in a way that would make the subject educational and collectible. The theme of 6° Cachets is that they have a Black connection. Some of the cachet subjects and the stamps relate or connect directly to Black heritage. But other cachet subjects or stamps may have to be connected to Black heritage, ... moreand 6° Cachets can do that in six or fewer steps with biographical information that is included with the cachet. It is 25 by 38 inches. There is a old window mat that was painted and left a mark around the poster edge. This can be matted out again with a new mat.
