Meet"Laura" born January 16. 1911, who grew up to be a"Model" 15 Red Eye beauty, survived the Great Depression and two World Wars and is still going strong! Her Serial number is G9363263. As you can see in her performance video, she is still capable, at 102 years of age, of just about any task her new owner might ask of her. In the video I misspoke saying she was 98 years young; she quickly corrected me referencing her birth year of 1911. Laura comes with an assortment of original Singer attachments that I have no idea what they are all used for but the seamstress or quilter will know exactly how to use. The carrying case was originally covered in a tattered cloth which has been removed and the exposed wood refinished and hardware painted brass. Originally Laura was a treadle operated machine. THE COIN IS A BASHLOW RE STRIKE OF THE 1861 CONFEDERATE CENT. SUPERB BU++ EXAMPLE. COINS WERE STRUCK ON PLANCETS MORE THAN TWICE THE THICKNESS OF A REGULAR CENT. FOLLOWING IS THE STORY: In 1861. An official of the Confederate States of America contacted Bailey& Co. of Philadelphia concerning supplying one cent pieces for the Confederacy. Bailey& Co. commissioned Robert Lovett, a well known medalist and token maker from the same city who had previously designed a cent sized token featuring the profile of"Miss Liberty, as the person to design the new CSA coin and make the dies. Lovett adopted his"Miss Liberty" head for the obverse of a cent, with CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA surrounding the profile and the date below. The reverse design was in the form of a wreath with a bale of cotton below on which was the initial ... moreof the engraver, L. Within the wreath was"1 CENT. Lovett struck 12 pattern pieces in copper-nickel, the alloy being used at the time to make United States Indian Head cents. Fearing treason charges from Union authorities for aiding the Confederacy, he cancelled the project and hid the 12 coins until after the War when he carried around one of the coins as a pocket piece. In 1873, Lovett, who was now an alcoholic, spent the Confederate cent by mistake in a Philadelphia bar. The bartender recognized the piece as being unusual, and showed it to a few individuals who who eventually made contact with John Haseltine. Haseltine bought the coin and contacted Robert Lovett to buy any remaining coins. Lovett denied any knowledge of the coin until one evening when he was“drunk and goaded beyond endurance, confessed all… At this point, Lovett unearthed the remaining coins and dies and sold the entire lot to Haseltine. Haseltine took the dies to Peter Kinder of Philadelphia to make restrikes of the Confederate cent. Very versitile and used year-round. This TURKEY RED CLOTH is unusual because of the ALL-OVER PANSY design- plus this cloth is probably the oldest of the group- We happen to love the Old. Soft ones. CLOTH has all-over Pansy design- flowers are approx 1-3/4" and there are sprays of two plus leaves, singles and the Border measures about 7" and contains lovely pansies, leaves and fern fronds. OLD, FLAMED, GERMAN, RED BEAUTY 4/4 VIOLIN
For your consideration this is an old full size violin with a beautiful slightly flamed two piece back. And a medium grained spruce top.The violin measures 23& 1/2 inches total, and the main body is 14 inches long. There is Stradivarius label, that says Mad e in Germany on the bottom. But there is no date. This violin features inlaid purfling all around. Fine select woods, excellent scroll work, and professional precise construction. As you can see, the neck material is also made with slightly flamed select woods. The peg box is intact, and the pegs work fine. There is an old repaired crack on the bottom front located to the right of the tailpiece under the right ff hole, and it's about 3 inches long. This repair is solid, and holding up well. Also, ther e is a peculiar dent on there wood right on the chin rest area. It runs horizontally. ... moreBut is is only a dent, and not a crack. This area seems pretty solid in spite of that. The sound post seems to be in the right place. And the bridge is ok as far as I can tell. However, these might need minor adjustments for superior sound. The strings seem to be of good quality, but they are somewhat old. In spite of the strings and adjustments, this instrument produces a very nice sweet, mellow tone. There is no case or bow with this one. Sold as you see it, and sale is final. There is NO RESERVE, and there is a $20.00 for the lower 48 U.S.A. states only. Repro Russian Red Army WW2 Soldier's Aluminum Spoons
F ANTASTIC Reproduction of the one of the most common spoons used by Red Army soldiers during WW2. This one was patterned directly off an unissued original and its identical to the original. Down to the maker's mark on the backside. Soldier's commonly modified these in many fashions such as; drilling a hole in the top handle, carving the soldier's name or initials into it and the also often carved trench art into them. The most common modification was grinding down the edge so it could better scrap the corners of ration cans, etc. These were carried in packs, the breadbag and very often in the boot or leggings. This is a must for the serious Russian WW2 reenactor! The price is for one(1) spoon.
