DESCRIPTION This card is from a range of trading cards issued in 2001-02 by(we believe) Wizard of the Coast. There was 2 releases. An initial set of 250 cards and then an update set of 125. Theredidnt appear to be any duplication of players though so we havent differentiated in the listing title due to lack of space- the number of the particular card in this listing is shown in the bottom right hand corner of the card. Included in the set were several"special" foil cards featuring the"top" players. As is usual in this sort of card set these"specials" were a little bit harder to get hold of. As usual cards were bought in sealed packs so you didnt know who you were getting. This made collecting your own teams cards a nightmare. No such trouble here though as we've already sorted them and listed them individually ... moreso you can either collect your own teams or get the singles you need to complete your album. Antique Wood Brass Sailboat Rudder OPEN Trade Sign American Folk Art Yacht Ship
Up for your consideration is this antique early 20th century boat rudder that has been made into a business/shop"open" sign. We do see the hardware is made of brass. Which over time has oxidized giving it a very nice patina. The brass hardware is riveted in place and the end of each rivet show signs of being hammered by hand(please see photos) which indicates the rudder itself was made sometime in the earlier part of the 20th century. The word OPEN is painted in a thick paint that resembles lead based paint. It does have some crazing and cracking which shows it's age but is not damaged or pealing. The rudder handle has been screwed in place and pivots but an addition hole is present where the original pin would have been. Please note the earlier flat head style screw. This entire piece does have some type of thin clear finish ... moreon it which has a semi gloss hue in places. This finish is worn in places and does not appear to be a new addition but most likely applied later on after the signs creation, sometime in the mid 20th century. The rudder board itself looks although it is either mahogany or cedar as it has a reddish tone(see photos) We do see a small crack on the wood on the rear edge of the rudder- this does not interfere with the structural integrity of the piece. Please note we will unscrew the handle from the board to ensure safe shipping. The rudder measures: 21" x 16" with a 22" handle.
