A nice copy of Small Arms Training Volume 1 Pamphlet No 5 Anti Tank Rifle. This is the 1942 edition that replaced the original 1937edition and that reprinted with amendments No1 in 1939. A 12 page plus cover publication with 5 illustration. Its contains useful the advise is that whilst the.55 inch boys anti tank rifle will penetrate a panzer 1 and certain part of the panzer 2 at 250 yds( both obsolete by 1942! it does not penetrate heavy tanks unless fired at exceptionally short rang and at very specific points like the cupola or rear of the turret. It suggests firing at vulnerable points. Especially on the junction points of the turret and hull and at the gun mantel to cause"burring of working surfaces and thus produce jamming" An interesting read and one of the scarcer weapons pamphlets from ww2. Published by HMSO in 1924, this book is similar to earlier training manuals published from 1909 to 1916, retaining most of the weapons and tactical details from those editions. Full of fascinating information and fully illustrated, this book is a very detailed manual covering the use and maintenance of the classic British Army weapons of WW1: the Short Magazine Lee Enfield Rifle and bayonet, the Lewis Gun, and the.303 Hotchkiss Light machine Gun. It examines all aspects of their mechanism and tactical use. There are ... moreparticularly interesting, and well illustrated, sections on the use of the Lee Enfield in trench warfare and the Lewis Gun as an anti-aircraft weapon. There is a great deal of information on ballistics, ammunition, loading, stripping, marksmanship, sniping, fire control, battlefield tactics and many other topics. There is an excellent fold-out diagram of the Lee-Enfield mechanism and many other diagrams and illustrations. There are two original rifle target cards(presumably belonging to the original owner) loosely inserted in the book. Three or four shots have been fired at each. All hitting the bullseye. One of the cards is marked'Hudson 735164' on the back. Condition: In good condition. The cover shows signs of wear. A few marks and some damage to the cloth near the edge of the front and rear boards. There is some wear to the edges of the spine. The binding and hinges are good and secure. The text and illustrations are very good, with just one or two minor marks, and there is no foxing. The book is signed by'E. K. Thompson, Army House' on the ffep.
