Motorola Model S-1318A FM signal generator- S/N: 887. Made by Measurements. Boonton, NJ- Circa early 1970's. This is a later solid state version of one of the classic pieces of test equipment found on the bench and in the service vans of many two way radio shops of the 50's- 70's- before service monitors became the norm. That's where this particular piece came from- I've had it for 6 years or so and it's worked well for me. Six frequency ranges: 25-32. 32-41, 41-54, 130-175, 400-470, and 890-960(2nd harmonics) Mhz. this is the model that also has an IF band generator built in- BNC jack for output. Those ranges are: 2.4-3.9, 3.9-6.0, 6.8-9.4, and 69-76MHz, plus there are a couple crystal jacks on the front panel for 250 Khz- 1 Mhz. I never had occasion to use the 890-960 band or the IF generator- they both show output ... moreto my frequency counter(the 890-960Mhz RF band reads@ 1/2 the dial frequency) This piece also has the 6dB attenuator pad on the output(you read output level on the right side line on the clear plastic overlay of the output dial) the output of the pad is an"SO-239" UHF female connector that mates with a"PL-259" UHF male. No RF or IF output cable is supplied with this item. I never had this instument calibrated or serviced- it always worked fine for me and the results were completely consistent with the specs of the working equipment that I checked with it. I'm making no specific claims as to it's accuracy. Also included in the auction is the OEM Motorola manual and power cord. I do not have the front cover for this item- the latch bar and hinge pins are in place on the case. Cosmetically it's in good condition with scratches and marks consistent with it's age. Receivers, or transmitting equipment, or as a signal source to a commercial FM radio station power transmitter. Because the frequency range stretches from 100kHz up to 170MHz, they are useful on AM, FM, Aviation com and VOR systems as well as a test system to interface to a GPIB controller to test electronics equipment. These were new in 2007 for $3950 each. Since these are the S1 version, they are set up to use RDS, Radio Data System to allow you to transmit text, song names, etc to equipped receivers. Most of them have never been used in class. I have fired them up and connected them to a frequency counter(which will also sell on ebay once I get all the ... moregenerators gone) with a 50ohm attenuator which shows the transmitting frequency, so they work. From what I can tell, something like a Panasonic 81 series, a Kenwood 5150, or a Kikusui 4310 are similar. There are quite a few from HP/Agilent, Boonton, and Marconi that do the same thing, but not as inexpensively as these will be. We have manuals and the warranty card for them. If you want. Unit appears to be in good condition with acceptable usage and wear marks. The unit was not fully tested but given a detailed inspection. I plugged in the unit and switched it on. The power light came on and it did not blow my garage circuit. A little bit of paint is chipping around the front of the unit. The lens that covers the small meter on front is in tact with no scratches or cracks. The carrying strap on top is in great condition. No burns or burn smells. McGraw-Edison Signal Generator Model 560FM Vintage McGraw-Edison Measurements Signal Generator Boonton Model 560-FM Up for auction is a fully functional classic Signal Generator in excellent condition. Description This Signal Generator is a vintage measurement instrument made by the Measurements division of McGraw-Edison located in Boonton. New Jersey. This particular model(Model 560FM) was first issued in the early sixties as a Standard Signal Generator capable of controlled power level CW as well as FM modulated signal generation in 6 frequency bands. The design is based on a double shielded central oscillator with a feedback circuit using dual bolometers for accurate power levels. The pictures show the internal circuitry both with the shields in place. 1 shield removed and both shields removed. I’ll include a hardcopy of the original operating ... moreand service manual. Three of the frequency bands cover the range 25‑54MHz. Two others cover 132-174MHz(VHF) and 400-470MHz(UHF) The highest band uses harmonics to create signals in the range 890-960MHz. This signal generator was marketed as universal portable measurement equipment for mobile communications. As can be seen it also covers many ham bands. The output level range is-8dBm to-128dBm(~100000µV to 0.1 µV) In other words it spans 120dB! This is truly a collector’s item that belongs in any collection of classic measurement instruments or radio equipment! It wouldn’t look bad in a museum either. It can also simply be used for its original intended purpose. Condition The instrument is tested and found to be fully functional and accurate. The instrument is in great shape. There are some paint chips. Mostly on the sides and the top, but the instrument is not damaged and it should be possible to restore the paint by retouching. The knob for the output level has a notch. BOONTON 102D FM-AM SIGNAL GENERATOR 450khz to 520mhz
This is a working unit but it is not perfect. It is great for working on Ham equipment or any radio with in its frequency range up to 520mhz. I used it with HF gear. I have noticed that it takes about 20 minutes to fully warm up when cold. Also two of the ranges have spots where the output seems to drop. They are the 130-260 range and the 260-520 range. This may just be a problem of cleaning and aligning. Overall this is a great piece of test equipment. One thing you can do is set the output to exactly 50 microvolts to adjust your S meter, or you can use it to calibrate frequency readout. The last picture is of the spec sheet if you are interested. It also comes with the original manual. This is a heavy unit and will be packed well. I've priced it accordingly, So I'm sure you will be happy. AM/FM/Audio alignment and measurement test set. Excellent for car radios. Table radios, and older audio. Unit is aligned and works fine with the following exceptions. One of the signals needed for FM stereo alignment. 67Khz is flaky One of the meters. Needed only for stereo power output of one channel is dead. I used it for troubleshooting and alignment of older car radios and collector radios. So it wasn't an issue. Recently adjusted to specs with HP test equipment. DOES include all test cables. MOST units for sale on eBay are missing the test cables. And the unit is not useful without them. Also includes a good copy of the manual with fold out diagrams as was in the original. I have not had the unit calibrated since I acquired it but it came out of a working environment and I can verify that it still powers up and outputs RF signal as it should.
