It reads National Mazda Lamps over a large light bulb. Lower part of sign reads National Lamp Works of General Electric. National Lamps Cleveland Ohio dated to 1911-1920. Nicely framed in a gold Art Deco frame measuring 13 by 18 inches. The actual reverse painted sign on glass measures about 8 1/2 by 12 inches. It has a black matte around the glass that holds it in place. The glass sign has not been attached or laid down. Some loss of paint but I would estimate 70 percent remains. This is an original Boundary Line sign from Yellowstone National Park says Hunting Prohibited. It is about 4" x 14 3/4" Aluminum metal on back, front has embossed or raised lettering that is imperfectly painted black, slightly off white or beige background, probably from the 50s or 60s. Sign is not more yellow on right side as pictures came out, maybe is lighting. I could find no damage or wear, it is in excellent condition. Only the mini marquee sign) The mini marquee has some signs of having been used, with usual general scuffing on the surface and one small indent on the right side, however these scuffs are only visible at an angle and do not show up when the mini marquee is backlit in the header. The marquee has some slight yellowing on the left edge, however the rest is very nice with a white background and white/off-white instructions text box. I believe this piece was manufactured by the Newton Manufacturing Company. I say this because the company is located in Newton. Iowa, and the scene depicted on this piece is that of a farm. I am also quite confident that it was created by Newton because I purchased it at an auction where other Newton pieces were being sold. That having been said, the following is some information about the Newton Manufacturing Company. The story starts in 1903, when George Newton moved to Newton, Iowa, to work at the Iowa Mercantile Store. While visiting Skow Brothers, a local foundry and machine shop, he noticed a box of matches spilled on the floor. A few days later, he returned with a sketch of a match box holder designed to hold matches on the wall to prevent them from spilling. The Skow brothers took some stove pipe and produced the first"Safety ... moreMagazine Match Safe. Mr. Newton realized that the front of the Match Safe made a perfect spot for an advertising imprint. Alaska Gift Vintage Alaskan Pipeline cut steel paperweight art piece Artist sign
This wonderful artwork was purchased at an estate sale in Albuquerque. NM about a year ago. It is simply beautiful and I just had to know more about it so I called the artist's number listed on the back of the piece and just spoke with his ex-wife.said they were on friendly terms so she didn't mind telling me about the piece. The artist is Les Bonner. He is now 73 years old. He made a few of these pieces from the mid 1980's to early 1994 she said. He purchased several pieces of scrap from the original pipeline, then cut them into shape, then had a local shop buff& chrome plate the piece. Then he would sand blast designs in the piece. This artwork is 17" long with the Aleutian Chain and 10" tall. The top has Alaska on it then it lists Nome, Anchorage, Dutch Harbor, Aleutian Chain, Homer and Juneau. It also features ... morelovely artwork sandblasted imprints of Whales, Bears, Rams, Dogs pulling Sled and Driver, Moose, Elk, Rams and Eagles. It weighs 6.5 pounds and is about 1/2" thick. Mr. Bonner is no longer making these pieces of art and his wife said the larger pieces, which this one is, sold from $600 and upwards. If you have ever visited Alaska. This is such a Rare artifact of History made into Art to own. The opportunity to find some of these pieces is very difficult. AN ARTIFACT OF ALASKA'S OIL PIPELINE HISTORY You can't visit Alaska without crossing the pipeline and wanting to know more. It is a significant part of Alaska. And U.S. history. Also called the Alyeska Pipe line) The pipeline is 800 miles of 48" diameter pipe. It can sustain an 8.5 earthquake. It is constructed above-ground(to protect the permafrost. And high enough for migrating animals to pass underneath) and below ground where safe. The zig-zag pattern of the pipeline is by design. A very nice. Large, corrugated heavy card stock sign; measures 45 in x 58 in. Nearly perfect and may not ever have been hung. The colors are very bright and no edge wear; see photos. There is some spotting above the tiger's head(see photo#2) I do not know if it will clean; have not tried. I have two of these and the other is just as nice, may even be a half of a point better. A netsuke is a form of small sculpture which developed in Japan over a period of more than three hundred years. Netsuke served both functional and aesthetic purposes. The kimono. The traditional form of Japanese dress, had no pockets. Women would tuck small personal items into their sleeves, but men suspended their tobacco pouches, pipes, purses or writing implements, on a silk cord, from their obi(sash) These hanging objects are called sagemono.
