Vtg 14" AFRICAN Wood Carving Sculpture/Statue MOTHER& CHILD-Metal Band Necklace Up for sale is a vintage African hand carved wooden statue of a mother holding her child. The piece is 14" tall and she has a metal wire band necklace. I purchased this at an estate auction so I do not know which exact country it is from or its age but believe it to be several years old. The piece is well balanced and stands easily. Especially since there is no base-just her feet. There's some like surface wear to the patina of the wood from handling but no chips, cracks or breaks-I'm just no certain about one toe. Could be a chip on the toe(last photo, foot on the right) or it could have been crafted that way-in any case, it's extremely minor. Hand blown, striped, plastic, textured gold painted a great assortment in wonderful greens and browns. This just needs a hook! The extender is there. But the hook came off the other side.
