Handmade Artisan Mixed Metal Harlequin or Jester Jewelry Display Piece or Decor
This piece is a wonderful casted sculpture of a Jester. Or Harlequin figure from mixed metals(probably Pewter and nickel, but I am not positive) It is signed by the artist on the interior of the thigh, and it is impossible to read. I am trying to contact the owner of the gallery where I bought it, and will post it when I can get the name. This little guy is rustic. But very detailed as the pictures will show-from his belly button to his bum, he is detailed. He has a serene face with a faraway expression, but still has a bit of the whimsical too! He was designed to be an earring display I believe. That's how it was displayed in the gallery. And that is how I used it for years. Up for bid is a vintage Mexican tall jewelry or display box with etched/engraved glass panels in a brass frame. This box is 9 inches tall and 4 inches at its widest point. The glass panels are 2 1/8 inches wide. This type of collectible ... morebox in good condition is getting difficult to find. At least in my experience. All the glass panels are intact with no chips or cracks and they are all secure in the brass frames. One of the panels opens up and the closure is in good working order. A brass hook is attached at the top center to hang items or jewelry. There is some patina to the brass frame and rust on the bottom(see photo) There are no signatures or other identifying marks on this piece that I could see. I have three similar boxes here that I acquired in Mexico in the 1960's and 1970's. So I'm pretty sure this one is also from Mexico and around the same time period. This box weighs 15.8 ounces and is in fair(rust on bottom) to very good condition. I ship all fragile items such as this in either double-wall boxes or box-in-box with lots of bubble wrap and packing peanuts to prevent breakage. These boxes do weigh more than a regular box.
