Stereo Mullard 5-10 amplifier without power supply unit The Mullard 5-10 was a circuit for a valve amplifier designed by the British valve company. Mullard in 1954 at the Mullard Applications Research Laboratory(ARL) in Mitcham Surrey UK, part of the New Road factory complex, to take advantage of their particular products. The circuit was first published in Practical Wireless magazine. This auction is for a rare Beam-Echo SPA21 integrated valve(tube) amplifier in very good cosmetic condition. It has been serviced. And works well. A couple of minor modifications were carried out at the time of servicing. These were, removal of the phase reversal circuit(why was it fitted in the first place? removal of the socket on the rear panel for the"extra" HT and LT supplies, removal of the switch for changing the output impedance, and the adding of modern loudspeaker output sockets. The output impedance is set at 8 ohms, and the wiring is still in place should 4 or 15 ohm impedance be required. All that will be needed is for 2 wires to be disconnected from the rear of the speaker sockets and the appropriate wires attached. For the service, a handful of out of tolerance components were changed, and the controls cleaned. As ... morea result of this work, this amp is now working well and, as would be expected from this manufacturer, sounds excellent, giving about 10 watts per channel of good clean sound, using a pair of EL84's per channel. There is also provision for selecting voltages of 110, 210 and 240, making it suitable for use virtually anywhere in the world without external step up or down transformers.
