Up for auction is a very early and extremely unusual Full Face and Head covering Diving Mask/Hood. This early version mask or hood is slightly similar to the standard Navy issued mask; and as such. Is a part of diving history. These diving helmet masks have been successfully used for many years by divers working in shallow and uncontaminated waters. They are made of natural. Compression-molded rubber with what appears to be stainless steel fittings that holds the glass lens, and regulator air hoses in place. The result is a rugged piece of equipment of very low volume which permits the diver to work in very confined quarters. The head-harness with its single strap can’t be adjusted, although it does make a comfortable, snug and effective seal against the divers face regardless of facial conformation. This strap helps hold the mask firmly ... morein place so as to minimize any risk of accidental dislodgement. The hoods design allows the hood or mask to be easily and quickly removed. This early piece of underwater diving history is marked with the letters A82058303 in red inside the mask and the number 1 encircled and raised on the outside and also some Russian. I assume letters and numbers. The mask is not fitted with a mouthpiece although it has an oral-nasal that attaches to a stainless steel airline coupling. This early piece of underwater diving history is not marked with any numbers or other identifying marks that I could find on the entire outfit. It was originally acquired when its previous owner was doing underwater welding in the Sea of Okhotsk. Near Russia, and may, in fact, be of Russian origin. The mask is held to the head by its elastic head covering design with the help of an additional elastic strap. The strap is not adjusted and the loop that it goes through on the back and outside of the hood is split and in need of reinforcing with industrial strength rubber cement. this is a vintage hose nozzle solid brass and includes the hose end threaded into the nozzle. You can still see where the hose is inside the threaded end and was cut off the end cap. This is a nice size and is either a 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 not sure if they measure from the inside or the outside. The $100 is not included and is only in the pictures as a reference point.
