This item is an antique Minton Vase with the Genevese pattern. The pattern is blue and white with oriental buildings. Landscape and flowers. The floral designs around the top of the vase are also on the inside top of the vase. The vase is 5" high and approximately 3 1/2" at the widest. The are indentations every 1 1/4" going from the top to the bottom all the way around. There are 2 side seams going down the length of the vase on either side. I am not sure of the date of this vase. See the pictures of the base of the vase for the markings. Imprinted into the pottery MINTONS, 17, S and a circle with something within the circle that I can not make out. The Minton hallmark is also in blue on the base with Genevese in a banner and next to the S and circle another mark in blue. With the exception of a chip on the bottom/base of ... morethe vase and a chip on the top rim the vase is in very good condition. There are no other chips, no cracks, crazing or stains. Which lends historical credence to its beauty. The plate is in very good condition. It has some crazing on the front but this is only visible when inspecting the plate very closely. It does not detract from the display potential of the piece. The back of the plate does have a couple of small nicks due to display stand. However, these are on the back and concealed from view so they do not interfere with display potential. These minor details are to be expected considering the plate is over 120 years old! This auction includes two cereal or soup bowls that are 7" handle to handle and 4 fruit bowls that are 5.5" I consider these to be in excellent vintage condition. My general impression of these plates is that they are showy. With shiny surfaces and silver trim and pattern well preserved. It is clear they have been well cared for, kept out of the dishwasher and used for occasional use only. When I look closely for wear, I find that many of these pieces might not have been used, others having only the lightest of wear, nothing notable to report.
