Signed by the famous London instrument-maker all contained in its original fine mahogany 3.7"Wx3.2"Dx1.5"H case, crotch-grain veneer. This microscope was developed by William Cary in the 1820's. Similar microscopes were produced by several microscopists and naturalists and typically unsigned, and referred to as"Cary-type" instruments. Antique Lacquered Brass Microscope on Iron Base in Case w/ Slides etc VGC & FWO
Description An Antique Lacquered Brass Microscope on its Cast Iron Base and in its Hardwood Case. This comes with a pair of Brass Tweezers and two Slides, all of which I take to to be contemporary with the Microscope. I would date this to the late 19th/ early 20th Century. This does work very well as shown. T here is no dust or anything else detrimental to the view so the end result is that it focuses clearly. All the Lenses are in good order. including the internal ones which are all present) with very minor surface wear and with no cracks or major damage. The Manual Sliding Focus Section works well. The Mirror is in good order and moves freely. There are no dents or major damage to the Metalwork. Just normal signs of age and use as in some slight surface wear, patina and a few blemishes. There are no structural issues at all with this'Scope. ... moreAnything designed to move does so freely and its threaded components run cleanly and tighten well. The Wooden Case is structurally intact with some minor wear but with no significant damage. The Hook Catches work but are not particularly secure so I wouldn't lift it by the Lid. All the above is as shown as comprehensively as possible in the many pictures. This vintage Tray-Drawer Cabinet was made by Paragon and originally intended for storing microscope slides. It would be perfect for organizing small. Flat, oblong items, as well as jewelry or other small keepsakes. The cabinet measures 16" W x 19" L x 5" T. The six drawers are each 2 1/8" W x 17 3/4" L x 3 1/2" T and there is a divider that runs the length of the drawers dividing them into two long sections. The attractive drawer fronts have a nice pull and a card catalog style tag frame. There are two of these cabinets available and they will be in the same or slightly better condition than pictured. I couldn't get my photo to be as clear. But the image is perfect. This image is only.025" wide, a small group of hairs thick. 4 Page article with 23 illustrations of early use of the microscope. These articles are taken from a bound copy of The Stand Magazine for 1896 in very poor condition. The articles themselves measure 15.5 x 23.5 cms and are in good condition apart from a little uneveness on the left hand side where the pages have been removed from the book. This does not affect either the text or the illustrations. Any dark lines or blurring of the text towards the edge are due to the scanner. Each article will be accompanied by a photocopy of the front page of the book to confirm the date.
