OXWELD W-I5 torch Brass body Oxy Acetylene small aircraft style
This torch(or blowpipe as it's brass nameplate calls it) is being sold in it's as-found condition with typical patina on the brass body and valves. The valves open and close relatively smoothly for it's age and permits flow of air(at mouth pressure) when open and shut off flow when closed. Based on some internet research. It appears that OXWELD(a unit of the Union Carbide and Carbon Corporation) started selling this model in 1929 primarily for welding aircraft tubing and other light welding work Comes with one tip which is a number 6. This type of torch was very common in autobody work or aircraft tubing work where light metals were welded or brazed but has been largely replaced by MIG welders. This type of torch is not available anymore. This was an economical way to join metals and could produce small. Strong and attractive ... morewelds in experienced hands. Anyone who tried to use a larger brass bodied torch(such as a Victor or Harris) would appreciate the light weight and easily maneuvered body of this type of torch. The barbed fittings at the bottom of the torch are unusual since more modern torches of this type have brass threaded couplings. This type of fitting would go inside the hose and be secured by a crimped brass ring over the outside of the hose. As mentioned. Both are Linde brands owned by Union Carbide Corp. the name plates are missing or worn off. My ex-husband told me what they were since he used to rebuild these types of torches. The handle on the one with the silver looking trigger is dented. But could be banged out. the valve on this one is crooked too, but this also can be bent back into shape. The name plates are missing or worn off. My ex-husband told me what they were since he used to rebuild these types of torches. The handle on the one with the silver looking trigger is dented. But could be banged out. the valve on this one is crooked too, but this also can be bent back into shape. The other one with the locking trigger has a number stamped. For sale is a vintage lot of cutting and welding Oxweld torch set by Linde Company. The handle base welding blowpipe is marked as model W-17. The cutting head attachment is marked Oxweld as model CW-22. There is an extra cutting tip. The welding attachments are marked Oxweld and fits both models W-17 and W-22. The gas valve is marked Airco. The valve is for the acetylene tank. Not sure if the gauges work. Since the tank pressure gauge is not on the correct zero. Finally, included is a small propane tank attachment torch. These came from an estate sale, and selling as is. No returns. See pictures for condition and details.
