One with a fixed hook, the other with a screw-lock knurled ring clamp removable hook(interestingly, some chain saws have one hook handle and the other handle fixed to the chain- this is often a removable hook type handle that had had the chain clamped in the handle after removing the hook; either choice was possible according to the operator's preference) In most cases today. These saws are found with the clamp handle and its knurled knob fused closed either to the chain or hook, whichever was in place when last stored 100 years before. However. Antique Ancienne French Français Syringe Seringue kit style of Charriere or Luer
Classic French 19th century glass& metal syringe in black leather covered case. Vintage historical medical item intended for display& demonstration. Not actual use. Not maker marked, but this style was often embossed on the case cover with Charriere, Luer, Collin, or other Parisian maker. Such cased syringes were sometimes included in larger military surgical instrument sets of French manufacture between 1870-1890, the likely dating of this item. Case is 77 x 28 x 19 mm, has a non-metal hinge, the outer layer of which is leather, the inner layer of a linen or buckram-like cloth, neither layer of which shows wear. Snap catch opens smoothly and closes crisply. Leather covering shows few markings and virtually none of the usually seen corner wear. Inner lid is lined with purple satin and is hinged so that the set of 14-15 included cleaning ... morewires can be stored behind it. Case inner lid and back side of the hinged inner lid are also lined in split black pebbled leather in perfect condition. Syringe and needle recesses are lined in purple velvet in excellent condition. Syringe is 69 mm long x 11mm diameter at the flange and plunger end x 9.5 mm at the widest part of the barrel. The tip is 3mm wide at the wide end and 2.5mm at the very tip.its length is 7mm. This is a smaller tip size than our modern Luer slip tip and Luer-lock designs-thus. Modern needles will be too large on this tip to fit(incidentally, the Luer who invented our modern Luer syringe fitting is not the same man or family as the Luer that was the Parisian instrument maker) The syringe easily disassembles by unscrewing into 3 pieces: 1) the glass cylinder which is 47 mm long x 6.5 mm outer diameter x 5 mm inner diameter-this glass is without scratches or fogging, except for 2 light full length parallel lines that appear to be scratched in at the time of manufacture-these are noticeable only when sought; 2) the plunger assembly, with its leather tip that fits nicely in the cylinder, the threaded knurled attachment ring with inside leather washer
