19th Century Doctor's Examination Table
19th Century Doctor's Examination Table This amazing find is an antique doctor's office examination table manufactured by the Allison Company of IL. It most likely dates from the late 1800's. The rivets. The handles on the side of the table, and the metal foot coverings are all made from what appears to be SOLID COPPER. There is a beautiful copper manufacturer's label on the end of the table, as you can see from the photos, and the maker's name appears again on the rubber foot pads. The mechanism works pretty well. The foot pedal on the left raises and lowers the table lengthwise and the right pedal tilts the table side to side. The headboard raises and lowers. The foot boards raise but do not stay up. I am not very mechanical, but I am sure this could be fixed. An old repair to a split in the wood is seen from inside ... morethe pull out cabinet door. There is some veneer missing from one of the doors as you can see but this is exactly as I found it. Most Allison tables I have seen through the years on Ebay have never had solid copper fittings as this one does. It appears to have been professionally refinished at some point, again before I found it. I am fairly certain this is one of the oldest Allison tables I have ever seen. The cast iron gears and levers inside are very interesting. This belongs in a fine medical museum or collection. I have owned it for years but am downsizing my collection.
