Antique U.S. Military Cavalry Saddle Bags Fragile Cond. *For A McClellan Saddle
These are a pair of U.S. Military Cavalry saddle bags. I believe that they are the 2nd Pattern M1904s. As they have the leather reinforcement in the center by the stud hole. Both of the saddle bags have the U.S. marking although it is rather worn. They bags are in fragile condition as they are very worn and there are some major tears in the leather at the very center where the bags connect right by the stud hole. I have shown two close-up views of these tears in pictures#11& 12. These tears are also visible in the first picture. The leather is very soft in the areas of these tears and it would not take too much for the leather to tear all the way thru- that is why I am saying that their condition is fragile and they need to be handled carefully. One of the bags has a large hole in the bottom as shown in the 7th picture. There are some ... morevery rough edges on the flaps of both of the bags and I have tried to show these areas and some of the other rough areas of the bags in pictures#3 thru#9. There are some good points of the bags- they both have their liners and I have shown one of the liners in the 10th picture. The buckles for the front straps are all there and all of the front straps are there as well. But one is broken as shown in the third picture. All of the straps are very worn and in poor condition. I recently acquired a M1904 McClellan saddle and these saddle bags came with it. I listed that particular saddle separately last week) I decided to list the bags separate from the saddle so as to be able to better show the fragile condition of the saddle bags. These bags are just as I received them. I have not attempted to clean them in any way. This auction is for this pair of Classic vintage STERLING"Climatic" Sleeping Bags- made by Washington Quilt in Seattle Washington- these are most likely from the late 1950's or early 60's. The Kellogg Company offered its own BeanBag Breakfast Bunch plush figures of characters it used to promote its cereals.
