SETH THOMAS SHIP'S BELLS CLOCK, KEY WOUND, GOOD CONDITION. WITH OAK STAND & KEY
This is a very nice key wound ship's bell clock by Seth Thomas. It is a Helmsman model and come with a Ship's Wheel Ring and Spokes. As you can see. It is very clean-OK so it could be polished more, but I said CLEAN, not polished. The clock runs well and accurately and strikes the ship's Bell Pattern in an attention getting manner. There is a small place along the edge of the bezel/glass meeting-less than an inch long and 1/16 inch wide that looks like the brass plating has worn off-but the whole bezel is brass, so I don't know what has happened. It is right at numeral'3' and may not be visible. The bezel screws on to the case body. A Key(not original) will be included. The clock case was made specifically for the Ship's Wheel Ring. Three places around the clock have been drilled and tapped so that the spoke can ... morebe screwed directly into the case. The five other spokes do not touch the case. So no dents occur. You may be able to see that in pictures#3. 4& 5. The o uter ends of some of the spoke need polishing. The stand is of solid Oak of 1 3/4" minimum thickness. There is a hole drilled in the back edge. Where a screw head from the clock fits. That insures that the clock sits upright, and the'12/6' axis stays vertical. There are some scratches on the back of the stand. Brown shoe polish should cover them. The stand needs some felt cushions to prevent possible scratching of what it sits on. Overall dimensions-9 3/4" tall. To top of spoke tip, 13" wide and 3 1/4" thick. Clock measurements: Spoke tip to spoke tip-8 1/2" Outside bezel edge to edge is 5 1/4" inside glass across the bezel 4" clock is 3" thick. The face of the clock is a little larger but there is a buffer ring so you don't see the edge of the face. The back edge of the clock is a little larger that the flared edge of the bezel and has 3 holes for mounting to a plaque or the wall. Screws not included. Small chips, corrosion, and pitting are a normal part of their patina attesting to their age and extensive use. Damage/Repair Internal and external chips. Additional information: Most glass beads produced in Europe from the late 1800s to mid 1900s fall into one of three categories: wound. Drawn and molded. Wound beads were manufactured by winding molten glass around a metal rod until it took on the form of the finished bead. Once the glass ... morecooled and hardened, there was no need to perforate it—removing the metal rod left a hole through which the bead could be threaded. Using the wound glass method, beads could be manufactured in small workshops without the need for massive and expensive equipment. But each bead had to be created individually, making cheap, large-scale production impossible. Wound pink glass with multicolor trailed lattice and eye designs. The spacer beads are old"Cheyenne pink" pony size trade beads. The pineapple beads measure about 9 to 10 mm across and 16 to 17 mm long. The coin used for size comparison is an old US"Buffalo nickel" 5 cent piece. This is for a vintage charles russell print-they are from about the 1950's or so- I have sold quite a few of these in the past-I do not know alot about them but a lady did tell me that snook trading post in montana was the first place to be able to sell prints way back when-how much is true i really do not know-these were in a port folio type and you picked the one that you wanted and they had prints to go with them?they are all old but not for sure exact age-This one is called wound up=9" x 11 1/2"the condition is nice but they do have glue marks on the back which is just a little discoloration you can not really see it on the print-they are quite rare-Please e-mail with any questions.

I wish I had more information on this item It's total length is 27" in length The blade has discoloration typical of any metal with age The wooden handle is not drilled or nailed. The blade sits inside the wood and then the maker wound copper around the wooden handle to secure the blade. It's pretty neat and I think it has some age There are no markings anywhere. Nor have I seen one like this on this sight It seems to be well made and nothing is loose or coming undone. I see no real damage other than the blade being discolored.
