There is approximately 2.5 inches thickness of 0.15 inch thick hide coiled to form this leather headed mallet. It has done years of service. The total weight is 519gm. Giving a quite substantial weight to the working head. 4 large screws hold the hide together and the handle is held firmly in place through the diameter of the coil with a metal wedge. It was originally used by compositors and machine operators to level printing matter by tapping a wooden planer on the surface. The resilient leather head meant there was no damage to the type or plates if it accidentally slipped and struck them. And newer Corona blue wire for the ground. The neck has Corona wires. They're in very nice condition. Showing light signs of age and use. They middle and neck are vintage wound. With the RWRP middle reading 5.99k and the neck 5.92k. The bridge is wound hotter. Coming in at 7.32k. This setup is very similar to what Fender put out with the X-1 from 1979 to around 1984. This is a set of pickups that I made for a Horus-like guitar I put together. Both pickups are wound to vintage specs. With a low output. Around 5.7k for the neck single coil and 7.9k for the bridge humbucker. The single coil utilizes A2 magnets, the humbucker is loaded with an A5. Vintage style braided pushback wire is used for the leads, plenty of length left. Wrapped in hemp twine and potted in beeswax and paraffin. The wooden covers are black walnut. WWI German Military Black Wound Badge 1939
History The topic of Imperial Wound Badges is a subject to be studied in itself. And what follows is obviously a brief summary as it relates to the 1939 issue. Kaiser Wilhelm II established the German Military Wound badge(Verwundetenzbzeichen) on March 3rd, 1918 with the declaration stating that it would be presented in 3 grades as listed above. The Imperial Wound badge was oval with laurels, a ribbon at the base and in the center an Imperial helmet with a pair of swords behind it. On June 3rd, 1918, the Bavarian War Ministry declared that the Wound Badge was an“award” not a“decoration” and on June 24th the Kaiser introduced the Naval Wound Badge, which was to be awarded in the same grades as the Army and under the same regulations. Due to the late nature of the creation of the award in relation to the war, many soldiers who were wounded ... morenever received their badges, a situation that was not fully remedied until after the collapse of the Weimar Republic. On January 30th. 1936, with Hitler in power and the Army gaining full momentum in the German society, the Ministry of Interior issued a declaration stating that all those who were wounded during World War I and never received their Wound Badge could now do so through the proper channels. They would also receive the proper documents, which would in turn allow them to wear the badge officially and in public. Still on April 20, 1939, after the annexation of Austria, the Sudetenland, and Memel, the Ministry of interior issued a declaration stating that all those who served in the Austro-Hungarian Army and were wounded in action during World War I would also be able to receive the award.
