The back says to break off the flare along dotted line, light a torn edge of cardboard and stand on end. If more heat is required, but two or more units. Early Antique Jackson Focus X Ray Vacuum Tube on Display Stand 1897 Vintage
This is a very rare. Museum quality piece. Professor Jackson's 1896 improvement was the first ever change to the Crooke's tube with which Roentgen discovered x-rays. This design was yet again improved within a year or two and became obsolete. There are probably only about a dozen surviving original examples of this type around the world. This is an unusually large one. About 20 inches overall length with the bulb being 6 inches diameter. Shown with an 01A tube in the first picture for size reference. There are no maker's markings anywhere that I can find. There are numerous small bits stuck to the inside of the glass. I don't see any that move around. The anode end glass has turned a little violet. The ball portion is somewhat darkened except for a stripe around the middle. There is a small chip in the blue glass that seals ... morethe looped wire connection for the cathode(very superficial) There are a few bubbles in the glass. The platinum anode plate is still quite shiny. The wooden display stand is modern and quite nicely made.
