Mosaic Tile Company Antique Hand Decorated Folk Art Tiles This auction is for 4 antique hand decorated tiles from the Mosaic Tile Co. of Zanesville. OH. Each is 6"x6" square. All are in good condition for their age with no cracks, large chips, or repairs. There is dark staining to the backs on some of the tiles and some remnants of a cloth type wall hanger. I'm not very certain of the concept behind these tiles, but 3 appear to be hand decorated and have a glaze. One(which looks like the state of Ohio) is hand-painted, but not glazed. You can see the image is smudged. Please review all photos. One tile appears to be a cabin and I can barely make out"beach house used in. and the beginning of"18. which appears to be a year(this is barely decipherable across the bottom) The other looks to be the state of Ohio and is the ... moreone that is smudged and unglazed. The next appears to be a court house or capital building and is glazed. VINTAGE 1960'S Mid Century LARGE MOSAIC TILE BOWL~RARE COLOR COMBO-NICE DESIGN !
The colors and designs of these 1960's mosaic tile creations are endless as most were handcrafted! This is a beautiful example! The bowl is a large 10" in diameter and very deep at 2 1/4" from table to rim. The INSIDE depth from the rim to the 5 1/4" diameter base(and center design) is 3 1/8" The use of the bright RED tiles together with the turquoise. White, flocked dark blue, beige with inclusions and black with gold flecks makes this one POP! The white grout is still in place and the gold aluminum shows only minor surface wear. Note that all the red tiles where chopped at the same angle creating a white bottom edge that you can see and feel.just part of the artistic process!
