Galion’s first products included a wide range of road-building and other construction equipment, such as drag scrapers, plows, wagons, stone unloaders, rock crushers, and a variety of other"experimental machines" By 1911, Galion had settled the design of a light-duty, horse-drawn road grader, which entered serial production. The"Light Premier" was an early grader produced in 1915. It was billed as light enough for two horses, but strong enough for four. Its blade could be raised, lowered, angled, tilted, and shifted sideways, just like the blade movements on a modern grader. Galion soon became famous for building some of the largest pull-type graders made for road construction. Popular throughout the 1920s and 1930s. These huge machines were pulled by the largest traction engines and crawler tractors available. These graders outperformed other motor graders of the day. In the foreground a crane is lifting up steel beams to a building skeleton under construction. It measures 8-3/4" diameter and has a heavy gold trim to both the outer rim as well as the ruffled rim for the cigarette holders. This is a very cool piece of Naval Military history from the WWII era and includes pictures of battalion members from seamen to officers. There are great candid photos. Battalion projects, black/white landscapes and a history of the battalion. It has a few condition issues including some ripping on the binding, and a few small ink numbers/notations writton on a couple of pages. This is a great book to look up a grandfather, father or uncle who might have served in the 86th during this time frame. This is an 807-page hardcover book published by Government Printing Office in 1911 that provides all kind of info about the Navy& Marines Corps during the years 1883-1911. This contains very detailed Congressional statutes that even prescribe things like how many extra ounces of coffee. Sugar, meat& bread should be given to men standing night watch on ships! The Appendices are extremely interesting& also chockfull of data: Such things as pay scales; the dates specific ships were constructed. The speed at which they were constructed, the cost, etc. There are also statistics for some foreign ... morenavies.
