Nice Dentron MLA-2500 HF Amplifier - Fully Operational
Extremely nice Dentron MLA-2500 HF amplifier. Fully operational in every way with a strong pair of Eimac 8875 finals. I have used the amplifier on 40. 20, 15 1nd 10 and have gotten excellent reports. My nominal operating point was 750 watts RF output on all bands. I have tested the amplifier on 80M into a dummy load and it worked fine but I have no 80M antenna to do on-the-air tests, This amp is original in almost every way with the exception of the AC voltage selection block on the rear panel. Originally it had a sheet metal cover but it was lost and I made a plexiglass cover that looks and fits well. I adjusted the wattmeter and ALC pots and everything works as it should. I have done the following additional things: 1) New rubberized line cord and plug. It is currently configured for 240 VAC operation but it will work on 120 VAC with the ... moreproper plug and volatge selection jumpers. 2) I have rebuilt the HV capacitor stack and replaced the bleeder resistors as well. This can be seen in one of the photos. 3) I have repained the cabinet with the proper black finish. 4) It has a new AC switch(exactly what was used in the original but of modern manufacture) The two meters each have two green lamps. The right hand lamp in the the meter on the right is missing. I have found green LED replacements and have ordered five. They are enroute from Taiwan and I will forward them when received. I have an expertly prepared manual copy plus a collection of mods and notes on this amplifier although none have been done as mentioned above. I will be happy to give tuning tips and settings via phone for the four bands mentioned above. This is smooth tuning and stable amplifier and it presents a good load to the driving transceiver.
