Glen Echo Kids Climbing Ladder Scene 1940 Professional Photo Lab Reprint
Glen Echo Kids Climbing Ladder Scene 1940s 4x6 Photo The park was originally designed as a Chautauqua site in 1891. A precursor of sorts to the arts facility Glen Echo has become today. It flourished until a misprint in the paper claimed that the mosquitoes in the area had malaria. In the early 20th century it was turned into an amusement park, which operated until the late 1960s. Like many public facilities in and around the Washington area, Glen Echo was restricted to whites for 63 out of 70 years of its history. However, on June 30th, 1960 a group of college students(primarily from Howard University) staged a sit-in protest on the carousel and five African American students were subsequently arrested. The arrests were later appealed to the Supreme Court and the convictions reversed in Griffin v. Maryland. As a result, an eleven-week civil ... morerights campaign began; students and residents of Bannockburn alike came out in force. The park opened the doors to all races in the 1961 season. However, the surrounding community complained about the influx of urban African Americans. As a result, the trolley and bus service to Glen Echo were closed. Without the public transportation link, Glen Echo, like most small suburban amusement parks, closed in 1968. Here is a neat collectible featuring kids climibing a ladder at an outdoor pool at Echo Park. This is an excellent reproduction of an old photo on quality photography paper not cheap ink jet stock. This liquor decanter holder was made in the late 19thC and was used to hold a decanter and 6 cordial glasses would hang from the side. This piece is almost in the form of a trellis with a ladder leaning up against it and roses and leaves all over it. This piece has all of its original paint. The entire piece is gold beside the roses petals which are red and the leaves which are green. The part that would hold the decanters base is mirrored that has lost some of its silvering. This piece is in excellent condition with no breaks or repairs. This piece stands 14 3/4" in height. 8 7/8" in width, and 6" in depth. It has a 85' hydraulic 360 degree rotating 3 stage ladder with the remote nozle setup on the end, it has a 1000 GPM Hale pump and 4 out riggers with the plates, the truck was kept inside in a very rule VFW in WV and used very little, It was still in use when I went to get it last week, the tires and brakes are like new all the way around, I drove it about 200 miles to Charleston WV, It has a big Detroit turbo diesel and Allison auto trans, 24,000 original miles and no rust or body damage anywhere, it weights 40,300 lbs and has air brakes and air suspension, everything works and it has been updated with LED lights, call me at 315-729-3670 with any questions, I have a clear WV title in hand and the truck needs nothing.
