This is a rare and hard to find walnut victorian library ladder or library step circa 1880. When it folds open it has 2 steps and then a seat at the top. There are lathe turned stretchers that are side supports. The overall measurements are 30 1/2" tall. 15 3/4" wide, 12" deep at the top, and 24" deep at the base when the ladder is open. This piece is in original condition. There is a small amount of repair needed. The top seat has a slight warp in the rear. It can be used as is. It is structurally sturdy. The finish is original and can be cleaned or refinished. The seat and steps need small upholstery work. In my area an upholsterer can do all that is needed or can easily be done as a do it yourself project. When folded up it is compact enough to be shipped via UPS. French Mle 1886/93 Lebel Rear Sight w Elevation Ladder - Nice
This is a rear sight with elevation ladder for the French Lebel- I believe this is is the sight used after the 1893 modification with distance graduations to 2400 meters- the Mle 1886/93. It is in nice shape. No rust or problems. The sight holds it's position on the ladder just fine- you have to use a little muscle to move it, but that may be the design, it moves fine. There is a diamond design on the back of the sight and the ladder- I don't know French markings- perhaps someone will let me know what they mean. This is 120 years old and still going strong- they won't be easier to find in the future and with next year being the 100 year anniversary of WWI, you can bet prices will skyrocket for Lebel items.
