Blue Photomultiplier Tube Reference Lamp Self Excited Geiger Counter Test Source
This is a small reference source for a spectrophotometer. It is unusual in that it is self powered. And even more so that the color is a violet blue peaking near 450nm. It is not really bright, but is great for callibrating colorimeters, i imagine the output wavelength and power is very stable since it uses no electricity. It was used with an interference filter originally that selected 450nm. The tube is tiny measuring about 2mm diameter by 10mm long. The wavelength output range as tested is from 422nm to about 493nm, but most of the energy is near 450nm. I also tested this with my Ludlum 3 Geiger Counter and it verified this item is mildly radioactive making about 900 CPM with my with pancake probe, hardly dangerous, but enough to use as a check source. This is a small 32x32x43 mm block of high quality scintillation material. It fits 1-1/2 inch face PMT tubes nicely. To make your probe with a PMT tube: This part should first be glued to the prepped PMT with a high quality silicone or epoxy glue. If using epoxy glue. The shiny side should face the PMT face. If using silicone glue the matte side should face the PMT. Then the block should be spray painted with two coats of brilliant white(titanium dioxide) paint first, and then one coat of flat black paint. Finally it should be wrapped in aluminum foil to the base of the PMT, and potted into piece of PVC pipe with a BNC connector for connection to your meter. The resistor string of the PMT should have 8-10meg ohms between dynode electrode stages. What you are looking at is two Block Optic Vaseline Glass Sherbets. If you are an antique or Vaseline glass collector you may appreciate them for what they are. Two antique block optic sherbets. One has a chip on the edge, and the other has two chips, so they are a good display piece for your desk. Perfect for a Halloween display, since you will not care as much if one gets broken. From a scientific perspective these are special because of the Uranium content which does two things. The first is the glass will fluoresce under a black light with an electric lime green glow. The second is they are very slightly radioactive. And measure about two to three times background. These are perfect for a safe, demonstration of radioactivity or fluorescence in the classroom, for the experimenter an excellent check source. Please note that the Pocket Geiger is a Photo Diode based detector. So it takes a long count time to detect it. The PM1703m is a Gamma Scintillator, so it does pick it up but very weakly. However, if you have a Pancake Probe or Hotdog Probe Geiger counter it will register because of Beta particle emissions. Either way. The Nucleus K2 5 Dekatron Scaler Geiger Counter with GM Tube Probe Blinky Neon
Wow! Neato! and made by a Japanese company that names itself after a giant flying reptile of B Movie vintage. The Dekatrons are Rodan Okaya DK23's. It works just ducky seeing it counts radiation from that old WW2 B29 meter. Which by the way is not included. The probe is a garden variety alpha. Beta& gamma counting type and the input sensitivity and HV range allows the use of other type of probes, like Ludlum Scintillator probes and the input connector is an MHV. This is an early solid state(no tubes except the Dekatrons) is of discrete build. No IC's and it actually has a tunnel diode in it. The HV filter capacitors have been replaced since this thing is at least 40+ years old. A really nice collectable item and more so for those who like blinking neon lights. Very dependable refurbished Eberline PRM-6 pulse rate meter scintillation/ Geiger counter instrument only no probe. Cable, or batteries. This model is one of my favorites for scintillation counting because of the highly accurate pulse trigger technology and low threshold with built in volt meter + on deck voltage set access. Although it was specifically designed for scintillation counting it can also be used with just about any Geiger or other probe the high voltage ranges from 500- 1.600 volts. Refurbished means strip down to bare face plate/ escutcheon plate hand clean with fine rubbing compound to remove any paint oxide. Stains, marks, as well as base housing, Inspect circuit board and all components under magnifying work light. Test all components with appropriate instrument, replace any bad or out of tolerance components with. Like or ... morebetter. Test meter balance rebalance if necessary, clean meter face inside and out and coat with anti static wax, clean fittings, knobs, handle, probe clip and other parts, Clean decade rotary switch contacts and treat with RidOx lubricate shaft and detent ball. Clean and treat any other silver plated components with RidOx, reassemble entire. Unit using new hardware if necessary. Pulse count calibrate at two points on every decade scale, test audio output and all other controls, measure high voltage, attach probe. And verify with Cs 137 test source. Operate instrument on and off for one week recheck calibration if no change the instrument is ready to sell. I treat every instrument as if. I plan to keep it for myself and have to depend on it working if needed for an emergency who knows the way the world is headed I might just have to. This model was made from the early 80s to the late 90s this one is dated 1982 A lot more advanced circuits to increase the battery life and one of the first commercial counters to use an integrated circuit pulse trigger greatly improving accuracy. Master 1 Radiation Dose Meter Gamma Ray Detector Measurement The Master 1 is a Russian made consumer grade Geiger Counter. It is relatively sensitive and small. It is sensitive enough to detect some Vaseline glass. However it is definitely better suited for higher levels of radiation. It is only sensitive to gamma rays, not beta or alpha. It is also sensitive to X-Rays, however machine produced XS-rays will not yield an accurate or realistic number. You can detect Uranium and Thorium ores, vintage Fiestaware, Radium dialed clocks and watches, as well as many other radioactive antiques. This device however does not have batteries. This is a neat and extremely small cold cathode X-ray emitting tube. It is only 2 inches long and about 3/8 inch diameter. It has a lead shield that covers about half the tube and a window that is just under 1/4 inch. I powered up the tube with about 25KV and it makes my neutron RAE tester go crazy. It's been a while since I found something genuinely interesting. And these units are definitely useful and handy. Up for grabs is a NeutronRae portable neutron/gamma detector. It has two photo diode based scintillation modules inside it. The unit has been repaired and tested good except the clock does not work, and the buttons that were missing were replaced by silicone and polyimide tape as shown. The crystal modules, by themselves, sell for over 800 for the neutron detector, and over 500 for the gamma detector on ebay. The gamma and neutron detector in these are spectroscopic quality according to one of my clients. You could be getting the complete instrument for about the cost of the neutron sensor by itself! This item is extremely hard to find, I have lots of lasers and other unique stuff for sale this week.

Complete AN/PDR-43 (F) RADIAC SET Geiger Counter Nuclear Research Corp IM-125F
Up for sale is an interesting little item. A U.S. Navy Space& Naval Warfare Command radiac set(stickered with an Air Force tag on the meter itself) From what information I could find on this particular meter, this seems to be the most recent of the PDR-43 series survey meters(you can find some of the old school green/grey ones kicking around as well on eBay, but this is the first newer blue style I have found) dating from the 80-90s from documents I could find. Feel free to chime in if you have any additional information or have any questions and I will be happy to see what I can find. This meter has a few nifty little features such as a collapsible handle, as well as a dynamic gauge that changes based on the setting to make getting accurate readings really simple. The kit itself is COMPLETE. It has the carrying strap as well as the original ... morebags(used to prevent from contaminating the meter itself) The case is pretty beat up, but could probably be cleaned up quite nicely. The meter itself is nearly unused and even the strap clips show no sign of worn paint. The downside is there is battery corrosion inside the battery bay, but the meter itself passes battery check and powers up regardless. Also, this was de-milled, but it was done right. All that was done to it was the removal of the Kr-85 checksource that was on the lever for the beta shield. Very minimal effort would be required to restore the meter to its full former glory and all the decals glass and paint on the meter itself is in wonderful condition. Due to the lack of the original check-source. I have NOT calibrated this meter. There is a calibration tag, but it was broken when the check source was removed. I am sure that a source other than Kr-85 will be usable, and there are many sellers that offer small sources that might be usable if an original cannot be found. It will register on an Ordinary CDV-700 as well, as well as exhibit a slight increase over background with a PM1703m. The reason is simple. To give it the greenish hue uranium acetate or uranium dioxide has been added to the glass. As you can also see from the photos, another property is exhibited, fluorescense(it does not glow in the dark, however it will react to UV. Vaseline glass has been made for over 3,000 years! Why would you want to buy this plate? COLD WAR RELIC!! IM-5015/TD REMOTE SINGLE PROBE RADIACMETER, GEIGER COUNTER
This auction is for a remote geiger counter or radiacmeter made by the R.H. NICHOLS company. It is a model IM-5015/TD. I haven't tested it but it looks very good/clean unit. There is a circuit board(see last pics) but I don't know what size batteries it is. For it looks like AA but I don't know if they had those in the late 1950s-1960s and I don't want to do damage by putting them in and trying it so you are buying AS IS. Everything is in great condition, including box. The tags showing when it was last checked are still attached, as is the tag that shows it was sent to the commanding officer at Edmonton. Here's the story as it was told to me regarding this: In the 1960s my uncle was in the Air Force as part of the NORAD Alaska region which housed AC&W(Aircraft Control& Warning) as well as DEW(Distant Early Warning) ... moreradar installations. He spent his non working hours in a bunker which was underground and supposedly shielded from atomic bomb blasts. Each shelter had regular radiation monitoring stations. But also had these wooden box"portable" monitoring stations in the event of the permanent ones being knocked out do to EMP blasts and/or other damage. Once his station was decommissioned many of the officers took anything/everything that wasn't nailed down, and he took this(among other things) He felt it was a cool piece of his Cold War history, and when he died, he handed it down to his son, who gave it to me to show my history students(I was a teacher for many years) Now that I am retired, I no longer have a need/use for it, and am hoping there are some history buffs out there who might be able to find some use for this. Note: one of the mysteries that I was unable to figure out is that this was a Canadian made monitor but was used in Alaska? Not sure if that makes this more unique or if that was pretty common since we were Cold War partners against the"evil" USSR.

Eberline E-120. Geiger Counter Radiation Detector wth Probe and SK1 Amplifier
Very nice E120. This model is smaller and lighter than most of the devices in it's class. It has more features than the CDV700s and rivals the Ludlums and Bicrons in quality. It has 3 ranges. X10, x1 and x.1 and also a knob for adjusting response time. These units were made with no audio but had the option of an external amp/speaker to provide sound. This sale includes a matching SK1 amp/speaker. The included probe is a heavy duty vintage Eberline model with a newer thin wall GM tube. This probe is sensitive to beta and gamma/X-ray radiation and has a very effective rotatable beta shield for limiting measurement to gamma only. All in all this is a great full function American made Geiger counter for the price of a Russian plastic unit.
