This is a very old fire hose shutoff valve with a spray deflector in one end. It is stamped'The Akron Brass Mfg. Co. Patent Applied For' It is also decal marked'WFD1' whihc stands for Winona Fire Dept#1. Valve measures approx 6.5" long by 9" by 2 1/2" at widest end and weighs just over 3 pounds. It is thick. Dimensional and heavy. This is an older version. Not newly manufactured- probably around 10 years old. The letters FIRE EXIT appear to be made of wood and applied. The arrow is also wood and movable in any direction but has a channel in the resin that points to the left and down. It measures 15.5" wide by almost 13" high. It stands out apx. 2" at the thickest part. Heavy duty hook on the back for hanging. The outer edge and what he's holding onto is a fire hose and nozzle design that frames the words. It's in great condition with ... moresome signs of use. But overall it looks awesome! It's supposed to look antique and aged. There are some rough edges and imperfect paint. These pieces compress the water into a very strong stream from the 1 1/2" Firehose into a powerful stream of water, double threaded side piece- upper& lower threads. I do not know the age of this item, it came from an Estate Sale& the Gentleman said his Dad was in the Fire Department back in the 1950s. The gallonage and pattern selector still turn readily. The hose is still in excellent, well kept, very clean condition, and except for a very small amount of edge soiling from handling/storage, it looks like it may have never been used.
