1918 Antique Fire Extinguisher
I am in possession I believe of an original hand held soda water extinguisher Mfg by the Success Company of Salem Ohio by John Manville in approx: 1918 or 1919. I have not been able to find another nor is there one on e-BAY that I could see. Both the company and it's owner I am sure have passed on. perhaps children still remain. I had a New York fire fighter tell me that in the 20's and 30's these were standard issue. Galvanized metal I am sure was before even brass and or cooper made in the early 20th century circa 1930's. I believe the right collector would love to have this as a complement to his existing collection and or just as a gift.

This particular fire grenade is filled with a salt brine water solution and was designed to hang over head. It has a spring activated pin that is held in place by a heat activated melt away tab. When a fire broke out, the tab would melt and that would release the spring which would puncture the fire grenade, releasing the contents ... moreto help put out the fire. This is not a CM7 or Carbon Tetrachloride grenade. This item will be shipped disassembled as seen in the 6th photo. The housing will be put back together and the glass globe will be shipped out side of it. To put back together just unscrew the two screws and pop the top. It is stamped on the side Underwriters Laboratories. 4 gallon hand fire extinguisher, and also has the tested no. and Natkin and Company. It is in good condition with normal wear on it. I have looked it over and can not see any holes in it. The handle at the top is wooden and red but the color is worn off from over the years. The side handles and the piece on the back is rusted, and it does not have the hose with it. I believe these were used to put out forest fires after WWll, an antique dealer and a fireman told me this. It is empty and doesn't have anything inside the fire extinguisher. Restored Copper Brass Allweather Fire Extinguisher with hose, Rare Model A
Here's a professionally restored Allweather Model A fire extinguisher. Manufactured by the Foam Childs Corporation, Manufacturers and Engineers, of Utica, New York. This Allweather has a patent date of 7-11-22, or July 7, 1922. The canister is copper, with the old rivet peening of the Sure Sweat Seam Sweat Seam; there are two brass labels and the top steel or cast iron handle is much larger than most. Both copper and brass have been restored. Along with the hose hardware. The steel handle has also been cleaned of rust and lacquered, to protect it from future rust. The base handle is missing and the red outer wrap of the hose has flaked away at the top portion. The metal has been beautifully restored. However, the copper shows use and age: there's etching- mainly at the base, behind the handle and adjacent to the seam. The etching ... moreshould be clearly depicted. The Allweather Model A is somewhat larger than the customary extinguishers of the period. It stands 24.5 inches and the rear side handle is 4.5 inches wide. The cast iron cap has a 6.5 diameter. This top cap handle has been restored to a beautiful fire engine red color. The extinguisher has also been professionally lacquered and with basic dusting and an occasional soap. Rinse and dry, will retain this beautiful finish for 20 to 30 years. The original extinguisher hose hardware and nozzle have also been restored. Antique Safety First fire dust fire extinguisher made by Newbegin Fire Appliance Company of San Francisco California. This may date back as far as the early 1920's. I found reference to this item by the same company in a San Francisco newpaper archive dated 1923. The item is still full and unopened. Top pull ring is still intact. There is a lot of corrsion on the container but it is still readable for the most part. The bottom is dented and there are a few scrapes as well. Stands 15 inches tall and is just under 2 3/4 inches in diameter. The item weighs 3 lbs 10 ounces by itself. Please send me a message if you have any questions and thanks for looking.

I always kept it in a drawer in my garage but it has never been used and still shows a full charge. However I believe that the US Postal Service will not allow it to be shipped fully charged, so I will have to empty it before mailing(if you are close enough to the Minneapolois/St. Paul area and want to pick it up you are welcome to do that- I'll not empty it until I know it is going in the mail) About the only condition issue is that the plastic face of the condition gauge is cracked(see picture) The paint is shiny with only a few scratched and scuffed areas. Rare Magician Fire Extinguisher Brass and Copper Unpolished Original Condition!!
This is a neat vintage fire extinguisher. It is mostly copper. With some nice brass accents. There are not very many of this brand out there. It is in pretty good shape. The hose has some dry rot. There is a couple of small dents and dings. The bottom metal brace completely underneath is rusty. This does not have the glass canister inside or the holder. This is as found and un-polished it will look great if polished. Vintage Solid Brass Fire Extinguisher Table Lamp *** Refurbished***
Bought this at an auction and it was in rough condition so I clean it up. As for working condition it was good. the gauge has little crack in it but not to noticeable. The base has a different color makes me believe it could be copper. The height of the lamp is 27" tall and 6" wide at the base.
