Watkins Charles Chester telegraph register fire police alarm system circa 1876
Another rare Fire Police security Alarm Telegraph system. The Watkins system dates back to late 1870's. The Charles Chester improved register is shown in Asher& Adams Pictorial album of 1876 on page 18. The system includes as shown a spring wound take up reel the cover which is loose as shown. An early Automatic Master fire alarm box which has an 1890 Patent date on it. Box is complete with working mechanism and an early auxiliary fire station with the slate mounted switches also included is a later dated 1904 automatic auxiliary fire alarm station. This early New York City system belongs together and will not be split up. I will transport this to Allentown fire show or buyer can arrange to pick up in Carmel NY. 10512.

The paint is in very nice condition with only a few nicks and nacks. The back has many more scrapes from be mounted on a wall I would assume. On the top and bottom of the box are entry/exit holes for wiring. The previous owner has added a gold painted. Lead or similar metal firetruck as a decorative ornament. It has not been secured to the box. It just sits on top of the hole. The box is 17" tall without the firetruck and 21.5" with it. The roof is 12" wide, while the body is only 10" wide. OLD HEAVY RED COOL LOOKING ALARM/CALL BOX. I'm not sure what this started out as Fire/ police or what. But it is red and has a phone mounted inside. Also original looking decal/sticker inside door and a hole in the top where I think they mounted a red lamp. It is a great piece and would be cool as a phone in the patio or where ever? It's heavy(40 lbs) so it will be expensive to ship and local pick-up would be better. Dimensions are approx 13" Tall 8" Deep 10" wide with hindges. The case is obviously original but the inside looks like it was adapted to work with newer stuff. Although the phone handset and cradle looks original but the dial looks newer. Vintage Holtzer Cabot Fire Alarm Box....not Gamewell
Beautiful Holtzer Cabot Fire Alarm Box This is a Holtzer Cabot Fire Alarm Box. It is signed on the bottom of the door. It is made of cast aluminum, is 15" tall 10" wide and 8 1/2" deep. It weighs about 23#s. It has been stripped and coated with 2 coats of Zinc Chromate and 5 coats of paint giving it a beautiful deep mirror red finish. The letters. And the gold stripping were hand painted on. The Box# on the brass tag is 2-2-8-1 with a matching code wheel. When you pull the alarm handle down the box taps out the number. Many of the parts of the box have some sort of 4 digit number on them including the hinges and doors. No scratches dents or nicks. There is no glass in the key guard and the small porcelan block in the back of the box has a crack in it. see last picture.
