Vintage FDNY Fire Alarm Call Box Door
Vintage Fire Alarm Call box door. Appears to be cast iron and brass. 9 1/4 wide x 12 3/4 long x 4" overall deep. Weighs approx 10 pounds. This was most likely from your typical fire pedestal call box located around the city of New York. Over the years the housing of the pedestals remained but the face and interiors were replaced with modern and efficient communication equipment. It is unknown if this ever had a lift guard. Doesnt appear to have as it would have blocked the verbage on top. This one is a little different with the key hole on top, no key, and not in the middle of the door. The hinges are intact but the ends are broken off. The door is down to the bare metal with remnants of it being red at one time. The mechanism, springs work but the stopper for the pull handle is half missing. This is being described to the best of my ... moreability and being sold as is. This antique straight fist fire box was first introduced by the Gamewell Company in the early 1900's. It has been cleaned and restored to near pristine condition. The the original telegraph mechanism inside has been changed out in favor of an antique 1930's vintage phone in non- working condition. The original lock and"Dog Bone" key are included. The Box has a rare Key Guard feature that is missing the glass cover window which is easily replaced. The front door indicates the words"FOR FIRE BREAK GLASS OPEN DOOR PULL HANDLE DOWN ONCE LET GO" A number#62 plate has been added. And white and gold paint used to touch up and highlight front of box. A new Cage Light with red glass globe has been added to the top and can be plugged into a standard wall socket. It has a pull lever to activate the alarm with PULL LEVER RIGHT DOWN FOR FIRE ALARM in raised lettering on the front and a key hole with a metal cover. It measures 6" wide x 9" high x 4 3/4" deep. This fire alarm is in excellent condition. The red paint is clean and bright with very little signs of wear and the pull lever works well. Firefighters must have for the man cave or to hold your extinguisher. Turn it into a switch for something-now that would be cool. Cover an unsightly utility or hole in the wall. Up for auction is this large 10" diameter fire alarm bell that was made by the Samson Electric Company of Canton. Mass. U.S.A. and is in very good physical condition showing very little signs of use. The alarm bell was purchase at an antique auction here in New England along with many other vintage firefighter items to be sold at a later date. The alarm assembly stands 17" high when mounted on a wall either in a school, factory, or firehouse. The Samson Electric fire alarm is a No. 64 with A.C. mult. and using 110 volts and 10.9 ohms as imprinted on it's brass plaque. The bell's gong is very loud when manually struck so it should serves it's purpose no matter where it is installed. Everything appears to be intact except for the wiring from the electric circuitry to the wall where alarm bell is to be mounted. Weighs 17 ... morelbs. before packaging. Offered is a very neat old fire box. Box retains all of the original paint and looks to be in excellent condition. From an old building in Auburn. California. Little lever on front allows you to"BREAK GLASS IN CASE OF FIRE. Would look great displayed with other helmets, alarm bells, and other firefighting gear. Gamewell, Gardiner Fire Alarm Box Mechanism for Serious Collectors
Do you have a 1916 type Gamewell fire alarm box that you need a internal mechanism for? and are you a serious collector?Well shown here is a"Gardiner" type Non-Interfering fire alarm box mechanism circa 1916. This was considered a dangerous type mechanism because it wouldn't send it's signal when it was in non-interfering mode. If the outer door was opened. The reset pin is then removed from the armature plunger allowing the coils to open preventing the signal to be sent, if another box was pulled at the same time.It's missing the hammer for the tap bell other than that it is in very nice and clean condition. the movement does operate mechanically. This type of mechanism is getting harder to find especially one in good working condition and restored. Any questions feel free to email me.
