Antique 1900's GAMEWELL FIRE STATION ALARM CALL BOX TELEGRAPH FIREFIGHTING &BELL
This auction is for an original antique Gamewell fire alarm call box dating form the early 1900's. The unit is original and has several old coats of red paint. Made in New York and is sold as you see it below. Not sure if it works but appears to be pretty complete. Has the winding mechanism that winds up properly and works. The bell is there along with the other inner parts you see. The box is in very nice shape and has a serial number on the front. Serial number is 22918. Front door opens and closes as it should. Box is made of steel and has no cracks. No repairs normal wear to the paint as expected. Weighs 60 pounds unpacked and measures approx. 17" tall by 12 5/8" wide and 6 5/8" deep. I do not have the keys. Very rare antique fire department collectible and is a must for any collector. Chicago Fire Department 8" Gamewell Fire Alarm Gong Engine 86 1895
This gong saw service with Chicago Fire Department Engine 86 wood frame fire house built in 1895. It was removed from service when the house closed in approximately 1932 and left in the rear building just behind the main part of the fire house where it was found when streets and sanitation took over the building many years later when the building was re opened and re used by the city. This gong was obtained from a retired streets and sanitation worker who told me the story. I have since cleaned many years of dirt and grime off the gong getting it back in proper working order and looks. It retains it's original oak finish and patina. Chicago dumpstered most of their gongs in the late 50s early 60s but this rare gong from Chicago was saved because it sat in a house that closed in 1932 was never removed to be thrown away and was re discovered ... moremany years later still on the wall. So. If you want a piece of Chicago history this Gamewell 8 gong is the gong for you. Shipping will be actual to where you live and must be packaged by the ups store and insured.
