Rare antique double-faced wall clock reportedly from Buffalo RR station bldg
This is a beautiful double-faced oak wood wall clock in perfect working condition. It reportedly hung in the New York Central Railroad's Buffalo. New York, office building, a part of the historic NYCRR Buffalo railroad station. Originally. This clock was a so-called"slave" clock whose hands were actuated once a minute by remote control from a so-called"master" clock, thus assuring time accuracy so essential for railroads. At some point after the clock was removed from service, two standard electric clock movements were substituted for the two remote control relay devices(one for each face) and that is the way the clock has been functioning ever since. However, the two original relays(one for each face) were preserved and are included in this sale. The main part of the clock measures 17" x 17" square and is ... more7 7/8" thick. Each face of the clock each measure 13" in diameter. As the pictures show. The"clock box" is supported on a long strip of matching oak measuring 32 1/4" high x 4 1/4" wide x 3/4" thick. Original document dated 1782, where John Wilkinson, Clerk of the Georgia General Assembly, has approved payment to Zephinea Beal for pork purchased for the good of the Public at Spirit Creek Station. Signed John Wilkinson. Document is 3x6, previous owner blindstamp on back, else in overall good condition. January 30. 1779 at Fort Henderson, Georgia- On January 30, Col. Samuel Elbert was commanding his Georgia militia when they were attacked by Lt. Col. Archibald Campbell's British force. Towards evening, Campbell closed with Elbert's force at Spirit Creek Station. Elbert had left 200 men in a small stockade, known as Fort Henderson, on the other side of the creek. Campbell bombarded the fort with his artillery for 10 minutes.
